The following Wednesday, the four met up at Daysi's bookstore. Although owning the store didn't make her a millionaire, Daysi loved it with all her heart.
She loved the "Eliana" section the most. Eli was apart of Daysi's whole life until after high school. Daysi had moved to South Dakota, and Eli had moved to Chicago. As a remembrance, a section of the bookstore was filled with all of Eli's favorite. The Percy Jackson series, The Heroes of Olympus, the Divergent series, The Hunger Games, and so many more. They still talked often, so the collection was ever growing. Arielle always read the newest book on that shelf to keep up with Eli's favorites.
Arielle had a new book in her hands now, but closed it upon finishing the first chapter. "Okay guys, time to have fun!"
It was a hot day, and they were all in casual clothes. Everyone looked.......younger. Arielle's hair was so straight, you could tell she took the time to brush it. She was wearing one of her many cat shirts with jeans shorts and flip-flops. Daysi was wearing a loose, plain, white tank, with black shorts and sandals. Chad and Logan were almost identical wearing muscle tees, shorts, and flip flops. They all looked ready to go to the beach, but sadly South Dakota didn't provide that. I guess you can never take the California out of a person.
"Today's a reminisce-kind of day guys." Arielle happily smiled and leaned her elbows on a table.
"Gaaaaaaay." Chad said. Arielle and Daysi hit him upside the head at the same time. Arielle sighed and continued her "speech".
"Anyways, I tried inviting Eli, Maria, Phoebe, Samantha, Diego, and Carlos but it was waaay to last minute. I mean all of them live out of state, and are pretty busy with their own lives. Nevertheless, this day shall be LEGEN- WAIT FOR IT................. DARY. LEGENDARY GUYS." All of them groaned. Their faces lacked much enthusiasm.
Daysi was the first to speak. "But Arielle, it's hot."
"YOU GUYS ACT LIKE YOU'VE NEVER SEEN THE SUN BEFORE. Geez, you know air conditioning was invented right? Let's go." Arielle stomped out the door carrying her purse as well as a picnic basket.
They spent the day going to several hangouts and restaurants in a pretty chaotic manner. With Chad as the driver and Arielle as the navigator, there was way too much yelling going on for Daysi and Logan to speak to each other in the back seat. They just laughed together throughout most of the drives.
They took stops at Taco Bell and Subway for snacks, and constantly muched on the fruit Arielle had brought. When they weren't eating, they went bowling and found an arcade with laser tag. They talked and laughed about old memories of middle school and high school. Their final stop for dinner was Red Lobster. Classy enough to have good food with a bar, but fun enough to be loud.
"So......." Arielle started conversation as the dessert arrived. "How was Citrus View?" Arielle winked at Daysi who's cheeks bloomed into a rosy color.
Daysi quickly responded to change the subject. "Totally normal. Like any other school. How was Valley Hill?" Arielle's cheeks turned the same red, and the tension rose around everyone's aura, but Logan's.
"Are you guys okay?" Logan looked at the other three feeling confused.
Daysi was the only one calm enough to reply. "We're-"
"I'm gonna get a drink." Arielle got up and moved to the bar bringing only her phone. Chad got up and followed her.
"Daysi?" Logan looks at her helplessly, unknowingly showing emotion. Daysi looked at him and sighed. She moved from sitting next to him to sitting across from him.
Logan's eyes became dark and sad. "Is this about senior year? When you ignored me?"
Daysi wiggled uncomfortably in her seat. "Yeah.......about that. It's a long story, but..........I'mreallyreallysorryIdon'tknowwhyIdiditbutIdid."
After waiting a while for Logan's reply, Daysi felt sorry for him. The man was so helplessly confused. Daysi took a deep breath, and began to explain. "I avoided you senior year on purpose, and I'm sorry."
"Yeah lady, I know that, but why?" Daysi sighed then smiled, remembering how often Logan used called her lady, woman, etc, but never by her usual nickname. Logan stared at her waiting for an answer. It's now or never.
Daysi took a deep breath, and closed her eyes. "I liked you, okay?"
Daysi opened her eyes, and focused on Logan's nose. "We were really close, and you never failed to make me laugh or smile, and I loved that. I liked you more than just a friend, but i didn't want to ruin our friendship. Plus, you always had a girlfriend, so in the end i figured you didn't need me."
Daysi met Logan's green eyes that were always so unaware and light-hearted. That all had changed. Now his eyes were concerned and tired. Seconds later, Logan was at Daysi's side with his thumbs to her cheeks. Subconsciously, she had started crying. Her silence turned into childish sobbing with her head against Logan's chest. It was as if she was a child who got lost in a department store. Logan brought her head up and placed his forehead on hers.
"I've always needed you." Then he kissed her. Gently placing his lips on tops of hers as if he was doing something he wasn't allowed to do. Almost like he was waiting for her to push him away, but she didn't. Instead, she leaned in. Her tears had stopped, and nothing else seemed to matter.
