the ninth of february, 2018 : "landscape" by robin coste lewis

i got sent this poem bc of poem-a-day which is this site that literally sends you a poem a day and most of the time they're super weird and don't make too much sense but every once in a while, you get a good one. "landscape" is about the ideas of race and culture and who people are and it's really super short. one of my fav lines is "Face speckled / by the spit / of several centuries." partly bc it's profound and talking about how we are shaped by our ancestors and who they were and what their culture was, partly bc i'm imagining old timey people appearing out of nowhere to spit in their modern descendants' faces.

i am very tired and stressed and tired and in college, pls cut me some slack
