Ponyboy
Ponyboy had been the one to find the note from Thalia that said she and Dally were going on a road trip. He told the gang, and they seemed to go on with their normal day.

Not even twelve hours after Pony had found the note, Dally walked into the Curtis' house. Pony was curious as to why he was back so quickly, but Dally was mad, and everyone knew not to mess with Dally when he was mad.

Dallas
Dallas tried not to crash the car on his way back from that disastrous scene. He was driving at the speed of light and was surprised when he safely dropped Thalia off at her house.

She stepped out of the car, but not before saying, "I'm sorry I ruined the trip, Dal." She looked down, awfully embarrassed.

Dally waited until Thalia safely walked into her front door. Even though he was somewhat angry at her, he still cared for her.

Cared

Dallas Winston cared for her.

Thalia
The drive home had been awkward for Thalia, but it was somehow peaceful with the hum of the engine and the light rain that had begun.

Thalia had felt awful. She wanted to tell Dally that she loved him and that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. She wanted to marry him and have children with him and just be with him.

But she couldn't.

She apologized as Dally dropped her off at her house. She walked in and plopped herself down on the couch to rest her eyes for a moment.

Her quick eye resting turned into a three hour nap. She was awakened by the sound of rain that had now turned into a harsh storm.

She picked herself up and went into the kitchen to get something to satisfy those pesky midnight munchies.

She grabbed an apple and went to sit at the kitchen table. She watched the depressing rain out of her kitchen window. She looked at the table and picked up the paper that she had been avoiding for so long.

It was the bill from the doctor's office. Behind it, the letter that had changed her outlook on life.

The letter that informed her of the rare disease she had.

The letter that had told her that she had three months to live.

The letter that ruined everything.

Chase your stars, fool. Life is short.
