Thalia died two weeks earlier than the doctors had predicted.

From that day on, all Dally wanted was to hold her in his arms again and tell her that he loved her.

But she was gone.

Dally had left the hospital and went back to the Curtis'. He would rather go back to Buck's and drink his sorrows away, but Darry had wanted to keep an eye on him.

After hours of moping around, Dally said he was going to Thalia's house and left before anyone could stop him.

He walked in and looked at everything.

He saw a paper on the kitchen table and went to read it. It was addressed to him.

Dally.

Life is short. It's the longest thing we will ever experience, but it will never be long enough. Don't waste it. Don't waste your days in the cooler. Just do something with your life. Live it in a way that will make you happy.
