(They have clocks on their wrists that tell them when they meet their soulmates)

My head pounded with fear.
I just had to survive until I met my soul mate.
To tell him I was sorry.
Only ten days.
You can do this, Y/n.
Self encouragement was never my strong suit.
Poison rushed through my bloodstream and it would kill me five hours after I met my soul mate.
I was feeling the effects of it already.
Headaches, cramps in my arms, and it was harder to focus.
The next effects were hearing loss and loss of balance.
My father had poisoned me, in a sick twisted way, he told me, "No one deserves you."
He gave me five hours, though.
Once my clock is removed and falls off, the poison works faster.
My father was a biotechnology genius
I hope that five hours is long enough to make sure my soul mate didn't get hurt.

The poison was getting worse.
Feeling absolutely hopeless was a feeling I had grown accustomed to.
Death was unavoidable at this point.

One day.
I only had one day left to live.
Guessing who our soul mate could be was my friend and I's favourite thing to do in seventh grade.
She thought it would be a celebrity.
Her clock stopped ten months ago, which meant her soul mate had died.
I do feel sorry for her, but I have my own problems to take care of.
What would my soul mate look like?
Tall? Dark? Short? Bright? Smart? Strong?
Guesswork.
All of it was guesswork.

Twenty-nine minutes.
Five hours and twenty nine minutes until I die.
My life was nothing to be proud of.
My father had been an alcoholic, my mother died when I was seven.
I just passed high school with a 2.8 GPA.
I didn't go to college because I knew my life was going to end.
What's the point of learning if you're never going to be able to use it?
I walked outside.
Glancing at my clock, it said 20m.
I sighed.
My fate had been sealed.
Wandering around the street, I obsessively checked my clock.
I was so occupied, I ran into someone.
"Hey! Watch it!"
My clock dropped to the ground.
"You're my soul mate."
My eyes widened.
I had five hours to live.
"Come with me. I have a lot to explain," I said, leading him to cafe.
"My name's Roy Harper." He had a mechanical arm.
It looked pretty cool.
I explained the situation.
"Then let's do everything we can to spend as much time as possible together," Roy said.
"Okay. I'm sorry you got stuck with me," I replied.
"I'm not sorry."
I blushed at his words.
We talked for a while.
Suddenly, my vision blurred.
"It's starting," I whispered.
Roy nodded, and led me out side the cafe.
He opened a car door.
It was a sleek black Camry, with red trim detailing.
Of course, I couldn't see more than blurred outlines at this point.
For all I knew, there could be "fuck" spraypainted on the side.
We arrived at the destination.
I had thirty minutes.
He laid me down on the couch.
Stroking my hair, Roy cuddled up to me.
"I'm sorry. That you have to do this, I meAn," I said.
A tear slipped down my face.
Roy just hugged me tighter.
My body started to shake with seizures.
"I-I love you," I said.
As I took my last breath, Roy clutched my hand.
"I love you too."
And then I descended into darkness.
