Betty and I sit down a pile of newspapers. I haven't said a word. Veronica walks in.
"Quite the expose." She smiles looking at it. "Whenever did you find time to write it?" She asks.
"Uhh. I stayed up all night. Couldn't sleep after..." Betty says.
"I couldn't either. Betty, you came through for me in a way that no one has before. But can we talk about what happened?" She asks.
"What do you mean?" Betty asks.
"The wig and everything. How far were you gonna take it?" V asks.
"Chuck deserved it." Betty said."You called him Jason." I said looking up.
"No, I didn't do that." Betty cringes.
"Yeah, girl, you did." V says.
"You called your self Polly." I said.
"It was like Dr.Jekyll, Mistress Hyde." V said.
"You became another person, Betty." I said, opening my locker grabbing a few books then looked at her.
"Okay, I remember telling him to apologize to Polly. Not because I thought he was Jason.
"Why then?" V asked.
"Because I'm done with the horrible things they've done to us and Polly." Betty says.
She walks away. I walk toward my classes of the day.
Betty, Veronica and I got sent to the principal's office. Lucky my father and V's mom were they to save our asses.
Chuck and his goons got kicked off the football team and out of school. We bought the book to a trash can in the field. We chucked it in there. Betty poured liter fluid in the can, Cheryl walked up to us lighter in hand. She lit it and dropped it in the bin. I had to talk to Jughead about the issues.
Jughead, Betty and I surrounded Doiley in the newsroom.
"If you publish a story saying I fired that gun, my life will be ruined. Ill be banished from Adventure Scouts and be charged with a misdemeanor. So what if I have a better story?" Doiley says. Jughead looks at Betty then me. I look at him. Jughead raises his brows at Dilton.
"If I tell you what I know, promise me the gunshot stays between us." Dilton looks at us.
"You have our word scout," I smirk saluting him.
"I saw something at SweetWater River. Something nobody else saw. Ms.Grundys car, by the river's edge. She was there." My jaw dropped. Ms.Grundy wasn't someone I was fond of, but this changes a lot of things.
Betty and Jughead are suspecting Archie was with Ms. Grundy on July 4th, both of them were having a freak show because we know something that the police don't.
Currently, I was sitting with Kevin and Veronica across from Betty and Jughead, Jughead was ranting about the drive in being closed, I was trying to stay awake from the restless nights and the unfortunate events. I come out of my thoughts listening to Jughead.
"No. Forget Riverdale. In the coffin of the American dream. As the godfather of indie cinema, Quentin Tarantino likes to say--" He starts.
"Jughead please for the love of god stop with the Quentin Tarantino references, it's killing me and Kevin!" I exclaim.
"What. I'm pissed. And not just about losing my job. The Twilight Drive-In should mean something to us." Jughead frails his arms. I knew why he was so upset. Jughead doesn't know that I know he's living in the drive-in, I wouldn't blame him, his dad is a drunk, not to mention the leader of a game, another secret he doesn't know I know.
"People should be trying to save it!" Jughead finishes.
"In the day and age of Netflix and VOD, do people really want to watch a movie in a car?" Veronica asks. I stopped listening again. Betty seemed down.
"Bets, you okay?" Everyone turns to her.
"Yeah." She smiles.
"Anyways it's closing because the town owns it, but won't invest in it. So when an anonymous buyer made an offer Mayor McCoy couldn't refuse." Jughead began.
"An anonymous buyer? What do they have to hide? No one cares." Veronica claims.
"I do." Jughead and I say in unison.
"You guys should come to closing night. I'm thinking American Graffiti. Or is that too obvious?" Jughead raises his brow.
"I vote for anything starring Audrey Hepburn. Or Cate Blanchett." V states.
"Who?" I ask.
"Your kidding right? You've never heard of them?" She asks. I shake my head sipping my shake.
"God we need some serious binge-watching time together." She says taking a sip of her drink.
"What about Mr. Ripley?" Kevin asks.
"Yes! Thoughts Betty?" I say. She seems a bit out of it, we all look at her.
"Sorry, I'm just thinking." She smiles.
"Uhh, I was thinking maybe Rebel Without a Cause." Betty says. I smile and nod.
Veronica's mom came with fries, we thanked her and continued the conversation. I could see Cheryl and her...friends? Out of the corner of my eye. They were up to no good. I used to be, still somewhat am friends with her, often Jason would talk about me with her. I'm snapped out of thought when the Andrews and Ms.Grundy come in.
"I'll be back." Betty says.
"Betty, don't." I say but she get's up. Jug and I exchange glances, I shake my head.
"Oh no, this isn't good." I say. We watch as Betty and Archie walk outside. I hide my head in my hands, I can feel Jugheads gaze on me. I feel guilty about keeping my feelings to myself, but I need to be sure he likes me before I make a fool out of myself.
I frown looking out the window. I keep thinking about what happend with Chuck and the information we got from Doiley. I still have to talk to Jughead about the playbook I'm in, I know he remembers, and he won't let me live without talking about it.
I get out of the booth, so Veronica can leave. I move in beside Jughead, Kevin sends me a smile.
I keep watching out the window, when Mrs. Cooper's car pulls up.
"Uh oh." I say Kev and Jug look at me.
"Pray to god she doesn't know I'm here." I say.
"Why?" Jughead asks "It's not like shes your mom."
"No but to her I'm Bettys gaurdian angel." I say.
