Immediately as the door closed behind her, Grace bolted into the woods hoping Mason wouldn't be able to follow her. As mad and upset as she seemed, it wasn't directed at him. It was never directed at him. After a minute or two of steady running she stopped at a large tree, resting her palm on the bark as she hung her head to catch her breath. She slumped onto the ground, pressing her fingers into her temples as if to numb all the thoughts in her brain.
'I couldn't save Chanel, I couldn't help Ava do the right thing, and I couldn't stop Estella.. I can't do anything.. I never could..'
Grace teared up as her thoughts took over her reality. She was always the airhead, the push-over, the weakling. She was always taken advantage of, never taken seriously. But it didn't come from nowhere, she wasn't always the stereotypical ditsy dumb girl.
3 Years Ago (Grace-Age 13)
A high pitched ring rang throughout the building, followed by hundreds of shuffling feet scurrying to leave the premises as soon as possible. School. Not everyone's favorite place, not most actually, except for Grace. Glasses, turtlenecks, 80s leg warmers, and converse. Grace confidently made her stride down the halls down to the Mathematics hall for Algebra Club. Algebra on Thursdays, Drama on Wednesdays, Spanish on Mondays, and Science Club on Fridays. Tuesdays were free, couldn't miss Taco Tuesday back at home after all.
After a thrilling time at Algebra, Grace happily made her way to the front door when she saw the popular guys clumped together blocking the door. Grace might have loved school, didn't mean she loved the people. She was always bullied, but it never phased her. Until now, that is. The guys took intimidating steps towards Grace.
"Well if it isn't Grace the nerd face." One of the guys teased. Grace rolled her eyes at him, unimpressed.
"Really Aiden, was that really the most creative insult you could come up with? I thought your brain capacity could at least fit a few decent burns." The guys 'oo'd at the seem to be leader of the group before Aiden glared at them in warning.
"Listen up dweeb," Aiden said, poking Grace hard in the chest which pushed her back a couple of inches.
"Homecoming is coming up and one of the lessers in my group have a question for you, so listen up and shut your mouth." Aiden stepped back into the group as another boy emerged. Grace looked confused at Aiden's words. Her confusion suddenly turned to anxiousness as the other boy emerged, the boy she had liked for nearly a year now.
"Trevor?" Grace asked shyly.
"Grace," Trevor began, stepping up to her.
"Will you come to homecoming with me?" Grace's face flushed as the other guys kept from laughing their heads off. Grace nodded happily with excitement.
"Of course!"
"Great, pick you up at 7." Trevor said with a smile, leaving with the other guys.
Grace jumped up and down in celebration as soon as they left. That saturday she picked out a slim dark green dress with a large ruffled bow on the chest, along with ruffles along the bottom. After several pictures of the dress, the doorbell finally rang.
