The train, much to my personal dismay, was now stopped, due to major snowfall and ice along the tracks which would take up to an hour to remove. The conductor offered his sincerest apologies to the many passengers on board and explained that his men were working on it as fast as humanly possible.
Normally by train it would take, two to three hours to arrive in Paris. depending on the weather of course. Though with how the snow still seemed to form at times cause a bit of an issue with the rail line, it was rather up in the air. The conductor said it would be an hour, but two had already gone by. However, those two hours were spent productively, Edmond and I having some conversations in German, with Edmond correcting my vocabulary every so often.
German was difficult, manageable, but still difficult.
I had hoped to master it by the coming year, but even then, there's only so much I can do all in one sitting. But since with work there was only so much I could learn.
In the midst of our conversation Edmond explained to me, in German no less, that when we arrive in Paris we will be given a day and night to recuperate before having to gather. Hearing that alone made me feel slightly apprehensive. As the faint worry I held in meeting this Lord of Vampires seemed to bloom a new. Even with all the encouragement that he had given me, I couldn't help but worry. Other then the few vampires I did know, there was probably a lot more of vampire society I didn't. whenever I asked Edmond such things he said that there wasn't much difference from that of a regular human one, yet something at the back of my mind told me otherwise. There had to have been something else
The rest of the train ride went undisturbed and by the time we reached Paris it was nightfall. The snow was now falling heavily, and with the crowds of people that walked past us made me feel almost like a ghost. Though I had never gone to Paris, I couldn't help but feel slight unease even though Rouen was a rather large city within itself I still felt wary.
However, we didn't take the chance to wander, exhaustion took the better of me and we soon found ourselves in a room situated in a building not far from the palace. From what the caretaker spoke of, many rooms had been booked in advance much like our own making me think that we would most definitely be seeing other vampires soon. But at the current state of things I merely wished to fall asleep.
When we entered our room in relative silence I found that there was only one bed, before I probably would have been bothered by such a thing, yet with how I currently felt and the mere issue of sleeping alone was something I still could not properly cope with, having only one bed made the most sense. Why have another bed if it wasn't going to be used?
I used my hand to stifle a yawn only for Edmond to yawn himself in which he properly excused himself for the action and allowed me some privacy to change. When he had as well I found myself saying.
"How many do you think will be attending this... event?" I asked not really sure what to properly call it.
"Well given the location I can only surmise it should be around several hundred?" when I looked to him he merely shrugged. "There are a number of vampires throughout Europe, it shouldn't be too surprising with the growth of people. But I think it shouldn't be an overwhelming amount considering the time of year it is. not many will be willing to travel all that far in snow. But with it being the Lord setting all of this up it can very well be hard to say."
And several hundred isn't a large amount already? I thought but kept it to myself. "They'll all have different backgrounds then."
