I couldn't think straight after that.

Not for a while at least.

Even on the last day as we gathered to speak in regards to the politics in this ever-changing society in that moment I could not care in the slightest. There probably are those out there who would want, and are indeed, fascinated by the politics of what our vampire society has to offer. But there is little I could care to remember with how I was.

In fact, I had to fight the very urge to go to that person. But that was not practical, nor a reasonable thing to do for I could have outed the society of this vampire community if I did such a thing in a public place. That was the last thing I wanted.

No, I had to plan. To think things through as to how I would go about it. To have that person tell me without endangering the vampires, without endangering Edmond's heart. If he were to learn what I had it surely would have shattered his spirit. That was the last thing I wanted here within the last night of Paris.

When it all came to a close, when we said our goodbyes to those whom we met for a short time, and for all intensive purposes may never meet again. waiting at the station the coming dawn, but my thoughts were consumed with the letter. But I had to be sure of something else before I could truly jump to conclusions, something of which I needed to ask Edmond when we were close to returning home.

The train ride was in mostly silence, Edmond had taken a rather great interest in the books which I had brought back from Henry. At one time or another, during the past three years Edmond had regaled to me in how he would eventually have to find something else for work or leave Rouen all together since the mere fact that he could not age. He could continue probably for a ten to even fifteen more years, but then would have to do something to change his appearance. He explained on the train ride that he has done it before. But even then, it felt like he was lying to those whom he grew to trust. And hated it.

With how kind and gentle Edmond was I knew it wasn't something he was lying about. But seeing him flip through the books that Henry had given to me with such great interest when he saw them. perhaps he held a fascination in the medical field?

"Edmond?" I spoke his name to draw his attention away from the book. "Have you always been interested in medical research?"

"There was always a fascination with it." He admits to me, slowly putting the book aside. "But I always felt I wouldn't be competent enough, what's more when dealing with so much blood I feared to lose myself. But I would at least read up on it, the human body is such a mystery within itself."

"You should try to peruse it." I tell him. "I really think you should Edmond, with enough time and practice you'd probably become a wonderful doctor."

"Yes, but I..."

"It shouldn't matter what you are," I lean forwards and grasp his hands tightly. "What happened with me, should not hold you back in something you wish to do in the future. You know I'll support you. like you supported me."

A slow smile reached his lips as he brought my hands up and kissed my knuckles. "Thank you, hearing that helps. But..." he sighed. "For now, I think I'll stick to reading these books. After all, I need to start somewhere. So... would you mind if I continued to read them?"

I looked to the books between us. Recalling Henry's words. "The person who gave them to me, said that as long as they are being put to use then there is not problem. So, you are more then allowed to read them as much as you wish Edmond."

We fell into silence as Edmond went back to the book that held his interest. As I continued to look out the window with the coming night. My hands grasping tightly together in recalling the letter that Mercedes handed me. I let out a breath and glanced to Edmond, there was something I needed to ask. Something I needed to know. But it could not be now, not here. I had to wait, just a bit longer.
