After Lean checked my wounds, making sure that they were healing, we left the medical room and began searching for the room that had Lean's eyes - for some unknown reason. I mean, come on. Where else would her eyes be? In her sockets where they belong!
On the other hand, she did admit that she was not blind. She just had a problem seeing.
Lean informed that the room that we were on the lookout for was for Room 2b. "Room 2 is the giant laboratory. It is split into two parts," she explained. "Room 2a is the testing room. You can find all sorts of liquids, test tubes, and test tubes filled with liquids. And of course, you test and experiment. Room 2b is the collection room. There are shelves that are piled high with jars, and each jar contains a substance from a unique creature, whether it is fur, a scale, or..." She narrowed her eyebrows. "...my eyes."
I was hardly listening to what the ghost girl was telling me. No, nothing was wrong with my ears. I was still in shock that she had no clue who Dr. Maxwell was.
Did I dream of the incident?
——————————————————————————
"I am not here to play games, Maxwell," she stated."No, I suppose not," he answered. "What reason could you possibly be here, other than wanting your eyes?"
Lean shoved the scientist against the wall and gritted her teeth. "Where are they?!"
"Hmm?"
"My eyes, you jerk! My eyes!"
——————————————————————————
And the figure?
——————————————————————————
"What do you want with me?""Margie. Margie. Margie Morgan."
——————————————————————————
I could not have. Dr. Maxwell and the figure seemed so real. There was no way that I dreamt them both - was there? One thing was for sure. I was not acting crazy. I saw what I saw, and it meant something. But what?
Who was the figure, and what did Dr. Maxwell have to do with Zeolex?
Lots of questions. No answers.
"Here!" Lean exclaimed happily, pointing to a black door with a sign that read:
ROOM 2B - LABORATORY AND COLLECTION AREA.
The ghost glanced down the hallways, and then grabbed the doorknob. "The coast is clear...for now," she said. "But we had better hurry. The Barmerians will be back anytime soon."
"Where are the Barmerians?" I finally spoke.
"They are at the other end of the factory. It will take them some time to explore that section to find us, the intruders, considering the fact that there are lots of rooms in this place. So we need to get my eyes and head out of the factory as soon as possible."
"How do you know so much about this factory?"
"I come here every other night, in order for there to be less suspicion, to retrieve my eyes, but every time that I try, my plans either do not work or are thwarted by Mr. Hawk. Mr. Hawk thinks that it is dangerous for me to go alone. He does not want me to go at all! But I am an excellent fighter, and he knows it! I do not need training! What I need are my eyes!"
I could see that Lean was getting angry with Mr. Hawk, and she had every right to be. He was a bad dude!
"Do not worry, Lean," I stated. "We are not leaving without your eyes. We will be successful. We will succeed and bring down Mr. Hawk."
"What did you say?" the ghost questioned. "About Mr. Hawk?"
"Uh...we will prove to him that you are capable of getting your eyes back."
"...yeah!"
Phew. That was a close one.
I did not want to tell her yet about my plan on taking down Mr. Hawk. We had to focus on retrieving her eyes first.
The ghost girl opened the door, and we walked into the laboratory. Well, I walked. She floated.
I took a good look inside. It was a big room, bigger than the medical room. To the left were tall shelves leaning on the wall, and on those shelves were jars stuffed with things that I have never seen before. To the right was just a white wall. There was also a white floor and a white ceiling.
I was about to walk further, when Lean stopped me. "What? What is the matter?" I asked.
"You will see," she answered. She floated towards the corner of the bare wall, picked up something - which looked like dust - and blew it, and the dust went everywhere.
"What was that for?"
"Wait for it."
Suddenly, red laser beams slowly appeared, reaching from the floor to the ceiling.
"Now do you see why I blew the dust?" Lean said. "So it would trigger the beams. Good thing that the Barmerians do not clean much."
"Whoa," I said. "How...how are we going to get through?"
The ghost grinned. "We are not going through." She pointed at two red buttons that were on the wall and on the other side of the room. "We have to press the button on the left. It will deactivate the laser beams."
"But how can we? The beams are blocking our way."
"Which is why we are not going to try to pass the beams." She took out my crossbow.
"My crossbow! Wait, how long have you had my crossbow?"
"Since the crash. I kept it safe with me until you were feeling better."
"You never mentioned that you had it."
"The writer did not want me to."
"Well, she could have mentioned it. How hard is it to write that you have my crossbow?"
"Sometimes, our writer is lazy. She has good days, bad days, and the days that she is totally on writer's block, so you cannot put the whole blame on her."
"Yeah."
"Alright, let us stop breaking the fourth wall. We have a story to tell." Lean handed my crossbow to me. "Shoot."
I was confused. "Shoot at what?"
"The button. Shoot at the button on the left."
What?!
