My eyes fluttered open. I was covered in rubble, and my leg felt like death. I coughed, dust from debris was everywhere. Someone lifted the rock from above me. Everything was blurry. I heard a muffled voice say me name.
"Kirstie!" It was a deep voice, though I could not distinguish it from anyone. I felt light headed. My eyes began to close once more. I heard someone screaming.
"Nooo!!!! Kirstie!!" Everything went dark once again.I awoke suddenly. I started breathing heavy. I could clearly see everything, and it was terrifying. The tour bus was torn apart, and the parking lot was in debris everywhere. A/N imagine their cover of radioactive for the rest of the book. Avi stood above me, tears falling out if his eyes.
"What happened?" I asked.
"The parking garage fell down, and the bus went with it. When I woke up, I couldn't see any of you. I found Scott holding an unconscious Mitch a few yards away. We put Mitch down and watched him, making sure he'd wake up. When he finally did, we went in search of the others. We found your hand sticking out of a pile of rocks, and we used all our strength to move the rocks from you. I don't know how any of us survived. I think that the furniture from the bus helped," Avi explained."Your the only one we've found so far." I now say Mitch, Scott, and Avi very clearly. They were covered in cuts and bruises. I looked at my leg. It was cut very deeply. I felt my aching forehead. When I took back my hand, it was red. "Your bleeding on your head, and your leg is cut badly, but they are not anything too serious. You should be fine tomorrow." Scott said.
"We have to find the others before it's too late." Right after Mitch finished his sentance, Kevin walked up, holding a limp Esther in his arms. Avi ran as fast as possible to his sister, and held her in his arms. He stopped breathing. He fell to the ground, letting out a scream. I limped over to him, something was very wrong. He was crying hard. I looked at him with concern. He took my hand and put it on her neck. No pulse. Esther died from the fall. Soon everyone was around, crying for Esther. We decided to sing her favorite song. Run to you. We held back tears as we made a circle around Esther, singing her favorite song.
A light in the room
It was you who was standing there
Tried it was true
As your glance met my stare
But your heart drifted off
Like the land split by sea
I tried to go to follow
To kneel down at your feet
I'll run
I'll run
I'll run
Run to you
I'll run
I'll run
I'll run
Run to you
I've been said holding scores
I've been fighting so long
But I've lost your war
And our kingdom is gone
How shall I win back
Your heart which was mine
I have broken bones
And tattered clothes
I've run out of time
Avi starts crying even more. This is so hard for him. He lost his sister, and he may never see his family ever again. None of us may see our families again. We finish the song in tears.
"I want to bury her. In a nice place. She deserves it." We all agree with Avi. We find some plastic bags in the street and put any remaining suplies that are left in them. Avi carries Esther as we try and find a nice burial place. We find a city park that is only partially flooded and not very covered in rubble. We decide that thats probably the best place were gonna find. We find some rusty shovels in a shed near the outside of the park and start digging a six foot hole.
One hour later the hole is dug. Avi sets Esther down and kisses her forehead. This must be so hard for him. We all put flowers we found with her. We start to fill the hole back up with dirt. We put flowers on the top of her grave. Soon it looks like a nice little flower garden. We all stand in silence.
"Let's go." Avi says. We all start walking. We walk, and walk, and walk. We walk for what seems like hours and hours. We need to find a place to stay, not near any talk buildings that can collapse. We find a small town. Perfect. We find some big, long jackets. Also perfect. They are too big for me or Mitch, so Avi takes the reddish one and Kevin takes the black one. Mitch and Scott find some black regular sized jackets. Avi finds a couch and claims it. The couch is outside of a little shelter, shed type thing that's about the size of a mobile home. It has a roof so we go inside. While Avi sleeps on the couch, we clean up the shed. One hour later, we are covered in dirt. It is almost sunset. Avi is awake and helping us to put the supplies up. We move the couch that Avi found and a couch that Mitch found inside. We gather up some soft grasses. Two people per couch and one on the mountain of grass. Kevin takes the grass tonight. Scömichè take one couch, and Avi and I take the other. Before we go to bed, we eat two granola bars each, which totals to ten granola bars. That leaves five left. I told you that a lot of food was brought back. I get on my side of that couch and fall asleep, hoping the floods don't come back.
