Avi POV
I sat in the wheelchair the nurse gave me out side of Kirstie's room. There is only one more hour of her surgery. I've been asleep for 12 hours and playing games with Kevin for the rest until now. Now, we are too nervous to do anything. I tap my index finger on the arm rest. I tap the one foot I can. I take in a deep breath.
I release it in a sigh.
"I can't take this, Kevin! When will they give us news on her? They have to tell us something!" I rested my head on my hand.
"Relax Avi. I'm sure that they want to get done with the surgery before they do anything else." Kevin but his hand on my shoulder. I looked up at him. He had care and understanding in his eyes.
"I'm so scared." I said barely above a whisper. Kevin seemed to hear me because he wrapped his arms around me. I felt hot tears threatening to escape my eyes.
"It's gonna be fine bro. And later I'll get you some BBQ." I smiled a little. Kevin's the best. I started to sing Rather Be. It was one of Kirsties favorites, and Kevin knew that.
"She'll be fine. The surgeries supposed to be over in 45 minutes. Hopefully sooner." I have him a bigger smile.
"That's my Avi!" Kevin laughed. We tried to bring the mood up by playing more time passing games. We played eye spy, see-how-far-you-can-fling-the-rubber-band, and roll Avi around the hall. Not the best games, honestly. But, it's all they had. Avi checked the time on his watch. 3:00 pm. 15 minutes until Kirstie's surgery should be over. A nurse approached us. I tightened my grip on my arm rest on my wheelchair.
"Are you the friends and family of Kirstie Maldonado?" We nodded in unison, then shared a worried glance. We either knew that this would be good news or bad news.
"Her surgery is over. The had a couple of complications on such a complicated surgery. Her heart sto-" I blanked out for the rest of her little talk. My mind immediately went to thinking on how bad it could've been for her. I really hoped that she was okay. What if she died? What would I do then? I would never see her again... Never hear her beautiful voice next to me...Never see her gorgeous smile. Yes, she may be all over the internet, but it would never be directed to me in that moment ever again. I would never get to hug her again... I would have to move on... That made a tear fall. I can't handle not being with her for forever.
Kevin was shaking me. The nurse had walked away.
"Dude, what happened?"
"I kinda blanked out. What did she say?"
"She said that Kirstoe survived the surgery and they are doing last minute checks on her. There were some complications during the surgery. Her heart stopped once, but they handled that. She lost a lot of blood, and..." Kevin stopped and looked down. A flood of worry came over me.
"WHAT HAPPENED KEVIN YOU HAVE TO TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED!" I spoke very loudly, while shaking Kevin rapidly.
"Dude, you have to promise not to freak out. Too much."
"I'll freak out but not too much, is that okay?" I asked.
"I guess that'll have to do." He took a deep breath.
"Avi, because of a piece of metal that seriously enjured her, she got impailed," All the color left my face, because I could tell he had a list." And because of that it took out a chunk of her lungs, so she will always be a little short of breath. But, that's not the worst part. Avi, they had to........

amputate her left foot."
My heart stopped. I felt light-headed. The world started spinning. She had to lose her foot? Oh Kirstie...
"P-poor Kirstie!" I managed to get out. Two years had left my eyes. I felt so bad for her.
"Don't cry Avi! We will get her the best prosthetic left-foot ever! It will be like it is still there." Kevin placed his hand on my shoulder.
"I hope so Kevin. How will she handle it when we tell her? We have to tell her eventually."
At that moment the doors from the surgery room that Kirstie was in opened. I saw doctors wheeling a stretcher on wheels towards us. I knew it was Kirstie. No one else would be in that room. They must have finished doing their last checks to make sure she was okay. They came closer. One of the nurses ran ahead to open the door the her room. As soon as it was open, they wheeled her in. While they were passing by me, I tried to look at Kirstie. All j could see was her face. It had cuts and bruises, and a bandage over her nose. She must have broken it or hurt it. They went into the room. I asked one of the nurses,"When can we see her?" She replied,"Whenever we get done setting her up and she is stable. Your in a wheelchair, honey, you shouldn't be worrying about anyone that much but yourself." She went into the room and closed the door.
"Well that was rude," I huffed," I may be in a wheelchair but I can kind of walk. And j worry very much about Kirstie! She is my only lo-" I cut myself off. While I was ranting, I almost called her my only love.
Kevin seemed to pick up on that.
"Man you are falling HARD!" He laughed.
"Kevin, this is no time for laughter. Kirstie is injured." No matter what I said, however, I couldn't keep the embarrassment from my face and voice.
"When will they be ready?!! Ugh. I need to see her." Kevin looked at me with worried eyes.
"Depending on what they said, are you sure you can handle it?"I am not sick anymore and my brain isn't dead anymore! Woo. I am also writing a random book because why not so check that out or don't I don't really care.
