The wave hit with the power if a mountain. I felt myself being ripped from the pole as the wave crashed through the windows. This building wasn't the tallest building, but it looked safe and that's why we chose to hide in it. We did not know that the wave was this big. I reached for Avi's hand to find that he wasn't there. I might not ever see the others again, I can't loose Avi too. The waters go down and I find that I'm floating on what it now a giant pool in the middle of the city.
"Avi!" I yelled. Nothing. I yell again.
"Avi!"
"Kirstie!" I see Avi swimming towards me in the distance. I swim towards him. We have to stick together, we won't stand a chance alone. I hope the others made it out safely. I reach Avi.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine, but we need to get to higher ground. Kirst, I need you to swim as fast as you can, okay? I'll be right behind you."  I follow Avi's instructions and swim with all my might to the tallest, remaining building that isn't torn apart. When we reach it, Avi breaks the window with his foot and we swim in. We reach the stairwell and start climbing.
"What about the storm?" I ask nervously.
"Does that really matter right now?" I shake my head as we arrive at the roof.  We get in the center and sit down. We link arms, we will not lose each other. The rain comes down hard, we are soaked to the bone. Lightning shines brights in the gray sky. I feel the ground quake. Another earthquake. I hold on to the roof for dear life. I know what's coming, I just don't want to admit it to myself.
"Avi, I don't wanna die!"
"Me too, Kirst." We hold each other tight as another wave crashes over us. I feel myself slip from Avi's grip as the wave pulls me over the edge of the roof...

Avi POV
I felt Kirstie slip from my grasp. I screamed while underwater, I can't lose Kirstie, I need her. The wave went passed, and Kirstie was nowhere in sight.
"Kirstie! Where are you!" I screamed in the rain.
"Avi! Help me!" I heard Kirstie's cry and ran over to where the sound came from. I looked all around, but saw nothing. Then, I looked down. I saw Kirstie's hands, her knuckles white from holding on so tight. I looked over the edge   and saw Kirstie dangling from the edge of the 15 story building.
"Give me your hand!" I reached out my hand to her.
"I can't! I'll fall!" She had tears streaming down her face, and tears were threatening to leave my eyes.
"Please trust me Kirstie! Another wave is coming!" With that she closed her eyes and took one hand off of the building edge. I immediately grabbed it.
"Now give me your other hand!" I reached out my other hand, waiting for her to reach out. She took a deep breath and lunged for my other hand. I held her with all my might and pulled her up. We collapsed into the roof. I hugged her tight. I was never going to lose her. She cried into my chest. All of a sudden, another wave hit. We faught against the wave, not letting go of eachother. The wave ended quicker than the last one.
"This really is armegeddon isn't it?" Kirstie forced a laugh. I looked at her with sympathy.
"No matter what, Kirstie. We will see the others again, and we won't die from this." Even though I spoke the words, I didn't know if I believed it myself. All of a sudden (again) a surge of wind blew very hard. The rains picked up. We got down on the roof, almost laying down, to not get blown away. I could see Kirstie's lips moving, but the wind was carrying  whatever she was saying away. Lightning and thunder struck at the same time. Then, I saw a bolt of lightning strike the same roof we were on. Kirstie screamed. The sound was deafening and the light blinding. My eyes were blurry and there was a high ringing in my ears. I saw the building start to crumble. I grabbed Kirstie and we ran the opposite way. I stumbled a lot, almost falling at one point. Finally, my vision restored to normal. The building began to tip, and we started to go down. We were screaming our heads off. We splashed into the water. My skin started to burn at the rough impact of the water. I felt something hard hit my head. I became light headed, and I saw red in the water. A piece of debris hit me on the head. I surfaces above the water and immediately started looking for Kirstie. I don't know what I'd do if I had lost her. I see head surface from the water.
"Kirstie!"
"Avi!"
"Stay right there! I'm coming!" We had to get out of the water, before lightning strikes the water. If that happens, the electricity will travel through the water and will electrocute any living thing in its area. I swam over to Kirstie, going around all the debris in my path. She was a good 50 feet away from me. At that moment, my worst fears were realized. I saw light flash in the sky. Then the bolt of light struck the water, and Kirstie went limp and went under. Three seconds later, I blacked out. Lightning can travel very far in water. Now it is all up to fate, whether or not Kirstie and I survive. As we sink farther and farther into the raging waters, I come around. I can feel the water going the way it came. The waters are going back. I grab onto a pole that has miraculously not been swept away, and stop myself from being swept away. With the waters only three feet tall now, my last thought is if I will ever see my Kirstie again.
