At the same hospital, didn't go anywhere.
Rahman was amused by Sitaram's thoughts. "Kaise Re! How could you think in this way? Now that you mentioned it, looks like there is something behind this." Sitaram then tried to analyse the situation. Before he could come out with a theory, the doctor arrived with few visitors. "Gentlemen meet Colonel Stinson. He wants to speak a few words with you." Stinson then asked the doctor about their injuries and how much time will it take for them to recover completely. "Well.. Sir.. Mr.Rahman has a few scratches here and there and a head injury. So he will be fine in a week. Mr.Sitaram had a bullet in his right leg. We operated and took out the bullet so for him, it will take around 2-3 weeks for complete recovery." the Doctor explained to Colonel Stinson. He asked Rajan to send the doctor out and asked him to stay outside with the soldiers that accompanied them.
"Hello gentlemen. My name is Colonel Andre Stinson. I work for the Governor-General of Madras. I am here to talk about the Bandit robbery that happened three days back near Ongole." Stinson spoke. He then took a chair and sat near the bed where Sitaram was lying. "Hello, Colonel" Rahman and Sitaram said in unison.
"What happened that day? I want you to tell me everything." ordered Stinson. Rahman started off quickly by saying "We were assigned the duty to safeguard the money by the local official in Palnadu. We thought it would be just the amount we collected in the Palnadu region. So we agreed. We only knew that all the money collected from the whole province was being transported in the train, when the Bandits attacked and looted us." Sitaram then continued, "Sir, we were thinking about it and we have a few points to be discussed. 1. Why were there no guards present on the train? 2. Why were only two of us chosen for this work? 3. How did the Bandits know that there was money being transported in that train? These questions need the answers Colonel."Colonel Stinson was surprised with the questions being asked. But he was not convinced yet. He still thought they were cooking a story out of it. "So you are saying that you both are not related to the Bandit robbery" asked Stinson. "No Sir. This was our last job for our office. Me and Sitaram were going to join the Royal Indian Air Force after finishing this job. We weren't related to this robbery nor did we help them. You have to trust us Colonel Stinson" said Rahman. Amidst all this Sitaram was thinking about the day when they were given the duty at the Governor-General's place in Palnadu. The person who gave them the order papers. He was trying to recollect his name. "Sir, I think the person who gave us the orders for this job is behind this robbery. As he was the only one who knew that the money was being transported to Madras and only he could have informed the Bandits" said Sitaram. Colonel Stinson then called Rajan inside, who came with the bags of Rahman and Sitaram. "Well if it is like that Sitaram, then how come there are bundles of notes in your bags?" Stinson fired back at Sitaram. "As you have helped the Bandits in stealing the money belonging to the British Raj, both of you will be imprisoned for 8 years for committing treason. Soldiers please take them to the Central Jail."
Rahman started pleading Stinson, but he didn't care about his requests. "Yeh aadmi hamari baat sunaye bina humko giraftaar kar raha hai.. Kuch bolo re Sitaram!!" Rahman was shouting at Sitaram as they were being taken into custody by the British soldiers. Sitaram went to Stinson to question his motive, but then stopped and went along with the soldiers. Rahman was amused with Sitaram's reaction. Sitaram was looking at the person who gave them the orders for transporting the money. Even if he went to Stinson and exposed him, he wouldn't believe. Stinson was not in the mood to listen to their theories.
"Guess we will be in the jail for the next 8 years, Rahman" Sitaram said to Rahman looking at Rajan, for he was the one who started all this.________________To be Continued
