The next few minutes were a daze. I wasn't even that close to Luke, but I still felt sick to my stomach.

"We need to get to the hospital Imber. Now." Her face was drained of all colour, her eyes fixed on nothing in particular. I stood in front of her and shook her shoulders, breaking her trance. I pulled her up and into the kitchen, pouring her a glass of water.

"Can you drive?" I passed her the glass of water, watching her gulp it down within seconds. She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand and nodded, grabbing her mum's car keys from the kitchen counter.

It was safe to say I feared for my life the whole way to the hospital, Imber's driving was fast and more than a few times I saw my life flash before my eyes. We pulled up in an empty slot in the car park and ran indoors to the main entrance, Imber instantly pulling her phone out.

"Michael what room are you in? We're coming up now." She ran off in the direction of the wards before I had chance to process what was happening, and I quickly followed after her. There was no use telling her to slow down, Imber was on a mission to get to Luke's room as soon as possible. I sprinted up stairs and through corridors until we finally got to the intensive care unit, ward 35, room 41B.

Luke was attached to numerous machines, wires making their way to every possible place where his skin was revealed. Sobs echoed through the tiny space and I scanned the room, locating the source to be Michael who's posture was small and weak, his hands white from how hard he was clutching at Imber's shirt, his face hidden in her, concealing his loud cries.

"He's been on medical treatment since I rang you, he took too many drugs so the doctors are taking extra precautions. This is all my fault! I should've been watching over him but I wasn't. It's my fault. It's all my fucking fault I'm sorry I'm so sorry what have I done." Michael's words tumbled out all once in between his deep intakes of breath; he was struggling to do much except cry.

"Michael please. You're drunk, you didn't mean this to happen." Imber's voice was just above a whisper; she was finding it hard to hold back her tears. I looked at the both of them and back to Luke, this was no place for Michael to be, especially with alcohol in him and I wasn't about to let Imber stay here and see the both of them in the states they were in.

"You two go home. I'll stay." I walked over to the other side of the bed and pulled up a chair, taking Luke's hand in mine and holding it firmly.

"No I can't just-" Michael tried to interject but Imber was already pulling him to his feet; he couldn't even stand properly without her support.

"Michael you're drunk and you need to go. We can come back first thing when you wake up." Michael gave a small nod before wiping his tears away. He staggered towards to door, but before disappearing completely, he turned back around, giving one more horrified look towards his unconscious best friend.

The room was so silent that even the slow pace of the heart monitor seemed to deafen me. The beeps were irregular and slow, too slow for a normal beating heart. I studied Luke, his hair was disheveled and his skin looked almost like a pale yellow. His hand was soft in mine, but there was no life in him. I brought our hands up my face, gently connecting his skin to trembling lips,

"Please be ok Luke. You have to be ok." A tear dropped down my cheek and I closed my eyes to stop anymore from falling. I tried to stay awake as long as possible, but sleep over powered my body. I leant back against the foamy chair, bringing my knees up to my chest. My eyelids closed, my ears being greeted by silence and the beeps measuring Luke's heartbeat. Darkness clouded my vision, my last thought of Luke, wishing he'd make it through the night.

"Since when have you been in charge of what I do?" Luke's voice snapped, it was full with anger. Luke's voice, he was awake. I was about to lean towards him and speak when someone replied to his question,
