Hearing a sound Sawyer jumped up and silently closed the door properly before returning to the couch. "I'm so scared Finn, I'm in such a quandary, th~the thing is I've met someone. Oh Finn, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." Finn was alarmed by the state his brother had got himself into. "Please Sawyer just say it, tell me now, you must!" Raising brimming eyes he looked at his brother and said in a halting voice "it's a boy, it's a b~boy that I love Finn, a boy." For a long moment Finn felt too surprised to say anything, then he laughed. Deliberately playing it down to help his brother, he said, "is that all! bro, i'm 15 yrs old, my hormones are all over the place, you think I've never felt an attraction to a boy before? If you have really found someone that you love, and he loves you back as much, then my advice to you is hang on to him. To steal your heart like this he is one lucky fucker" Sawyer burst out laughing at that, his nerves evaporating. Theirs was a family where nobody ever swore around each other. It struck him as so comical, yet he realised that Finn was using the expletive to underline that he meant every word he had said.
"So who is the mystery boy that has swept my big brother off his feet? I followed you this morning bro, but i didn't see anybody else. I did see you vanish into thin air right in front of my eyes. It's why i had to jump into the pond and tell mum I had fallen in." Realising the lengths that his brother had gone to, and the risks he had taken for him had Sawyer in tears yet again. How on earth had he been failing to notice the wonderful and caring guy that his brother had grown into right under his nose. He felt sure of one thing, he would never doubt his brother again, this was a hard lesson for him, but a lesson learned.
"Finn, I need you to just believe me now, because you deserve to know, and I mean to tell you everything. Here goes nothing! He is from another world, a world that is joined onto our world. Somehow when he is there I just step across to him. Each time I go there it becomes easier to see him, because for a long time, like you I would be right there, and apparently he was next to me, but I was unaware of him. I think it might even be possible for me to cross over without him being there to lead me now." It seemed incredible to Sawyer that his brother was trying so hard to understand all that he was telling him. How nice it was to be confiding in him, and how relieved he felt that his brother didn't think him quite mad. "So, this wonderful alien of yours, does he have a name?" Finn said, "he isn't an alien and yeah his name is Biro." Finn laughed, Biro! "you mean as in the pen?" "Don't go there" growled Sawyer, "yeah as in the pen, except that in his world they don't use ball point pens."
Finn was looking intensely at his brother. "You know what bro, when we were younger the two years difference in our ages always seemed a lot to me, but somehow now it seems so much less. I'm really sorry, I ought to have seen how unhappy you were. I guesse I hadn't let myself in case it might have interfered with my own life. I really wish I had taken the time to look. What if something real bad had happened to you, it would have been, like, my fault. This Biro, is he real? are you certain he is. I can see you believe he is, but you're sure it's not some kind of fear of your sexuality causing some kind of hallucination when you step into this other world. I have never known you to show any interest in guys before Sawyer. I mean, this friend of yours, what have you done together? have you, you know?" Sawyer laughed, relieved and surprised that his brother had already thought this through so deeply. "We've kissed, that's all, I don't even want anything more yet. I feel too young still to be worrying about that stuff. I do know for sure though that it's not lust, or just a crush. It's proper love Finn. I care for him, not for his body but because I cannot imagine not having him as a part of my life." They sat there quietly chatting and Sawyer told him everything, even how lonely he had been and the lengths he had gone to, to cover it up. He told of how on his birthday he had first met Biro, and stepped into his world for the first time, also of what he so far knew of Biro's world. "Can I meet him Sawyer?" Finn asked. "I do need to vet him and to make sure he is real, he could be a figment of your imagination caused by the trauma of stepping into another world!" Sawyer laughed at his chiding, and told him that he would try to find a way to let the two of them meet although he wasn't even sure if it would be possible.
