"Sawyer" he screamed as he ran to where his brither had just been vapourised. He felt as though he was about to vomit and his legs felt like water. He looked about him with dread and then down at the ground. There was nothing, no blood, no debris, no marks on the grass. This was not a place where somebody had just died. His heart singing with relief he realised that his brother was somehow still alive. Wherever he had gone to on his birthday he had now gone back there.
His first thoughts had been to raise the alarm and somehow break it to his parents what had happened, but now thinking more rationally he realised that just as his brother had obviously returned on his birthday, he would almost certainly return on this day as well. He needed to buy his brother some time, and then when he did show up at home there was going to be some tough talking if his brother wanted his further cooperation. His resolve didn't completely dispell his anxiety though, and he was going to feel very relieved to see Sawyer alive and well. He rang his mum up even though he knew she would not be best pleased to be disturbed at work. "Hi mum, I'm really sorry, I did something reallystupid on my way to school. I ended up running really early so I cut over to the pond on my way to school. I just wanted to see if there were any tadpoles yet and i didn't notice how slippery the ground was. Sorry mum i fell in the pond, my clothes are all messed up so I've come back home". At least now when the school contacted his mum about his absence she would tell them his story and he wouldn't get the third degree from her about where he had been. So now there was only one thing for it, He jumped into the pond, the water was freezing, it came up to his waist and he immediately scrambled back out. Then he set of at a trot for home. He knew his mum and she would immediately leave work and return home. As he ran along he passed his neighbour walking her dog, and saw her quizzically looking at him. Damn! he could have done without that, he would have to worry about that later. He rushed indoors and ripping his clothes off he jumped into the shower. Not a moment too soon as he heard his mums key turning in the lock and then she was calling him. He clamboured out and wrapped the towel around his midrift expecting to do battle with his mum. There was no battle. She rushed over and hugged him tightly to her. "Oh Finn, are you alright? you scared me half to death" She held him away while she scrutinised him for harm, "you could have drowned, get yourself dressed before you catch your death". "Mum it was only three feet deep " he protested. "You can drown in only one foot deep she scolded, shock is a funy thing, you lie on the settee while I make you some hot soup and then you can just take it easy for an hour or so".
Sawyer was so overjoyed to see Biro that his instincts took over and he hurled himself at his friend and wrapping his arms around him and holding him in a tight hug. Even as he did this there was a dread forming in the back of his mind. Biro could be horrified and repulsed, probably would be in fact, there was no going back now though. He needen't have worried, his friend was hugging him back, they released each other and Sawyer was the first one to speak. "I'm so sorry about yesterday, I felt scared and confused, so I-i ran away, I needed space, and then I thought you might never come back here again. I would never able to find you again, ever! I was a coward, hiding from the truth and hiding from myself". Biro started to speak but Sawyer stopped him, "wait! I need to tell you, it's right that I do". He forced himself to hold eye contact with Biro whilst screwing up his courage and struggling to hold back his tears he said "I-i love you Biro! There! I've said it. Laugh at me, pity me, hate me, walk away and I won't blame you". Biro's face was a mask of concern and fear, " I love you too" he whispered, "I think I have since our first meeting. I don't understand what's happening, but I can't deny it, we need to talk Sawyer, and try to make sense of what is going on between us. Not here though, we mustn't be seen, follow me". He led the way to a low picket fence near the edge of the meadow. As they drew closer Sawyer could see what looked like a small farmhouse with some sort of large adjoining outbuilding. "Wait here" Biro said, "i'll wave when the coast is clear and you come then." Nervously he waited as his friend strolled over to the house, as soon as he reached it he waved Sawyer scooted over to join him. "This way, come into the barn" Biro said, grabbing him by the hand and almost dragging him inside. Immediately grabbing him by the shoulders he pulled him close and kissed him, long and lingering. "I wanted to show you" he said releasing him. "I wanted you to know how I feel also". Feeling tongue tied and embarrassed Sawyer said "In my world, well, b-boys, well they d-don't, you know, kinda get together. It does happen but it's not the norm so a lot of people, well, th-they don't like it and it makes their lives tricky. I mean some people they are fine but maybe not in a small village like this. Probably in your world it's just a normal thing but in mine it's hard to accept, even for me". Biro smiled wryly, "how wrong you are, in my world it is totally unheard of, it has happened I do know, but it is scarce. If I were to be found out it would bring shame and disgrace onto my family".
