Part 10 A vague plan

The unusual thing about this little village  that Sawyer  lived in was the underground station that it boasted.  So that although it was near to the end of the city line,  you could travel to anywhere on the tube network.  Anytime the family had reason to go into London,  rather than attempt to drive through the madness that was Londons roads,  quite apart from the congestion charge,  and the fact that even once there you wouldn't be able to park anywhere,  they would take the much easier option of jumping on a tube train saving  on time,  energy and frustration.

He told his mum that he was going for a little walk,  and she, being very aware that her son was struggling with something  he had yet to confide in her about,  she told him to go then,  but not to be too long as he had already been out for most of the day.  Sawyer wasted no time in walking briskly to the station and picking up a couple of free underground tube maps,  then he made his way straight back home because he didn't want to make his mother more suspicious than she already was.   As soon as he got home he went up to his room, and pored over the map he had picked up.   Then using his laptop, he carefully researched likely looking locations in fairly close proximity to underground stations,  but also that weren't too urban, because he knew Biro would need to be near to the countryside if he was to be happy in this world.   He carefully ringed in pen all of the likely looking ones.  Now it would be a matter of trying to work out where they would manage to live,  and how they would finance it.                                                         He had ended up  with just four possibles.  Epping,  Loughton,  Oakwood and Cockfosters.   He would visit each before he made up his mind.   The only one of these that he had been to was Loughton,  it wasn't far and although not as nice as here,  it was semi rural with nearby countryside.  The good thing about Loughton was that they had all gone there together,  and he remembered his mum saying that it wouldn't be her cup of tea so she wouldn't be in a hurry to ever go back there again.   Secondly it would only take half an hour from there, using the tube,  to return here to see his and Biro's families and friends.    He would not be telling any of this to Finn yet,  now that they had at last bonded again,  and so closely as well.   He couldn't bear to think of how Finn would react to losing him again.   As for his parents, once he and Biro were somehow settled he would write his mum a letter explaining why he had done what he had,  and then his parents would feel relieved to be rid of him.    Once he was sure of his plans he would put his brother in the  picture,  but for now it was a case of first things first.    Tomorrow,  early,   he would take Finn with him and attempt to introduce him to Biro.  For now the though he needed to convince Finn to play sick so that their mum would tell him to stay home from school.   He would promise his mum he would stay with him and keep an eye on him,  and she would hopefully  go off to work.

Finn rather surprisingly hadn't taken a lot of convincing,  so at nine the next morning,  once their mum and dad had left the house,  and the school kids and stragglers had gone they slipped away  together,  and made their way back to the village green and the pond.                                              Karen had kissed Brad  goodbye and left a little earlier than usual for work.  She wanted to explain to her boss about her sons little accident before she got started on her days work.   In fact Finn still hadn't felt  one hundred percent so she had left Sawyer to keep an eye on him,  with strict instructions to ring her is there was any problems at all.   Also she'd told him to make sure Finn stayed indoors and kept warm for the day.   She would ring the school from work and let them know why he was missing a second days schooling.                                                                                                        Eventually ten thirty finally crept around and she picked up her mobile mobile and handbag and gathered up her coat from the little lobby,  so that she would be able to step outside and ring home to check on Finn and then she would ring his school his school.   She wandered along to the tea room and got a cup of coffee from the machine.    Suddenly even before she had a chance to slip out of the exit door the most unholy clamour started up,  as the fire alarm went off.   Quickly leaving her coffee she left the building by the main door,  and went to join those from her own department at their designated assembly point.   She expected any moment to be told to go back inside as it was just a drill.   They were in fact informed that the smoke detector had set the alarms off  and the fire brigade was on it's way.

They hung around anxiously until the firemen turned up,  then their manager told them that the whole premisses would be checked before they would let anyone back inside again.   Karen had seen all of this before and knew that it would be a least a couple of hours before they would be given the all clear to go back inside.  Unlike most of the other people out here she had all of the things she needed with her.  She said to her friend,  who was actually the designated fire officer for her department,  "Jo  I've got all of my stuff with me so I'm going to go home.  Would you text or ring me if they expect us to go back and work again today,  then I'll come back."    Jo laughed, "wish I could join you,  my coat and car keys are in my locker.  Yeah off you go you lucky cow."
