Chapter 5 Nichole
"You'll never catch me!" I ran all around the little kids' playground in the center of the park. Louis was right behind me trying to catch me. "You're slow." I called over my shoulder as I bounded up the playground's ladder. The smirk on Louis face grew as he stalked closer to me. I stuck my face in my gloves realizing I had backed myself in a corner. He slipped on the first rung of the ladder making me laugh. He really is clumsier than me. He made it up to the platform and slowly made his way over to me. I backed up against one of the freezing metal walls. Louis was less than an inch away from my face. He leaned close to where his mouth was by my ear.
"You know, I really wish I was your boyfriend because I would kiss you right now." I pushed at his chest making him stumble away.
"Louis we talked about this." I crossed my arms snuggling further in my coat. "It was a momentary lapse in judgment." He bit his bottom lip and stuck his hands in his pocket.
"You say that, but I don't believe you. I know you meant what you said." I rolled my eyes and went to walk past him. "Don't think so." He wrapped his arms around my waist lifting my feet off the ground.
"Louis! Put me down!" I bit my lip trying to keep from laughing as he made his way over to the yellow slide. "I'm supposed to be mad at you!" He laughed and I elbowed his side. His grip loosened, but not enough for me to wiggle out of his grasp.
"Just because you won't be my girlfriend doesn't mean you're not going to be my friend." He sat down and placed me on his lap before sliding down the slide. "We should probably go before people get suspicious though." I quickly ran to Louis car only I didn't quite make it as I slipped on ice. "You're ridiculous." He was laughing as he walked over to help me only to wind up on his butt too.
"Who's laughing now asshole?" I stood up and dusted off my butt. Louis got up behind me mumbling about how I jinxed him. I shook my head and climbed in his car.
"Has anyone told you you're mean?" I shrugged and turned the heat on full blast the moment the car was started.
"Have I ever told you I don't care?" I raised my eyebrow and he nodded.
"Right, but one day you're going to have to tame down that wild side." I rolled my eyes.
"Whatever." I lead my head back against the head rest and closed my eyes. "You handled it. I'm sure my future boyfriends can too." I immediately opened my eyes regretting what I said. I saw Louis tense before he turned the music up drowning out any possibility of talking. It wasn't my fault I had mixed feelings. On one side I had this perfect, funny, and charming boy who loves to do things with me and spoil me, but on the other side I have reality. He left and didn't even try to work things out until three years later. He got upset when I told him I wasn't ready to try again even though I was the one who suggested it. I just wanted to stay friends. I couldn't handle fame. There I said it. I don't like the fact that millions of other girls are checking him out even though I see why they do. I don't like the fact that when we would be separated it would be months instead of hours and miles instead of feet. It honestly would suck the life out of me. "Louis I-"
"It's fine." I rolled my eyes and turned the music down.
"No it's not fine. It's not okay for you to not understand why I'm doing what I'm doing. You already know that this-" I pointed between me and him. "Doesn't work. I'm not going to give my heart to you again just for you to throw it down and stomp on it again." He cringed at the words, but they needed to be said. "We agreed on being friends, but if you're going to act this way when I mention the male species we're going to have problems." I huffed and sat back in my seat while he just shook his head.
