Chapter 10
I swear, if she doesn't answer in the next ten seconds, I'm going to barge into her apartment—"What?" She casually answered, and I could already picture her expressionless face, a soft crease between her brows.
"Oh my gosh!" I breathed out in relief, "Logan, I was panicking!" I was still in my boxers, not sure if I should get ready for the banquet now or later. Of course I remembered the time Mrs. Mitchell had told me to get ready, but I needed to call Logan for reassurance.
Excuses—just admit you wanted to hear her voice.
"Where the hell were you?" I've been waiting for her to answer for the past three hours. "Should I get ready? I'm shaking!" Because her mom had formally invited me to this banquet to accompany Logan, I couldn't help the sense of panic set in when time ticked by. This could be a way for me to make a good impression to Logan's mom... just in case.
"Daniel! Shut up, hang up and put your suit on, then you get here and you're done—" she then mumbled something I couldn't quite catch, but it didn't stop the tilt of my lips at the sound of her voice. How she was able to be so straight-forward with things amused me.
Nonetheless, I couldn't help, but retaliate, "I'm not the one that disappeared for eight hours—did you put your phone on airplane mode?" That was one of the things that got on my nerves about her; she could literally care less about things.
"Yes, and I'm not even guilty," she answered, I almost laughed if I wasn't a bit annoyed, "hang up and get ready, you dork."
"I'm not a dork," I muttered, before hanging up. I stood in my room for a few seconds, a small smile appearing on my lips before I shook my head and proceeded to get ready. Once I was ready, my dad drove me off to her apartment complex, where I texted her that I arrived, receiving a short reply to just go straight up.
I have to be honest, I'm nervous. I'm not too sure what to expect of tonight because I rarely ever go to these sort of events, but hopefully, with Logan being there, it'll help me out a bit with being comfortable.
I reached her door, hesitating to knock on the door or if I should just turn around and leave, using some lame excuse that I was sick, but before I could do anything, the door swung open, revealing Mrs. Mitchell. "Daniel, you came!" She grinned. "Logan! Daniel's here." She called for her daughter before stepping aside for me to come in, to which I thanked her. I waved at the guy that was in the room, before I heard the soft click of a door behind me and turned around.
"Hey Log– oh wow." She's looks so... different. Compared to when I first met her; she sported sweats, gave off the whole laid-back sort of vibe with her hair in a messy bun and no makeup, with glasses over her eyes. I remember then I found her very cute. Now, as I stare at her in a dress, accentuating her figure and the makeup highlighting her features, I couldn't help but gawk.
Because wow, she's beautiful.
"You clean up well, Seavey," she commented, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Y-yeah, so do you," I answered back, mentally slapping myself for stuttering. Be a little more subtle, would you? It was obvious that this entire exchange had gone completely awkward as we stood there, not sure what else to do and I could see both the guy and Mrs. Mitchell staring at us, a hint of amusement on their faces.
She then spoke up, "I'm going to, uh, put my shoes on, and you just... stay here?"
"Yeah, that's good, by– I mean, oh gosh, okay." Honestly, you're a mess. I quickly turned around, not wanting to endure this situation any further and I heard her door close, not long after the guy's comment wavered in the air, making matters worse.
