Thomas

I woke up to my alarm clock blaring. Groaning I turned it off and pulled myself off the bed. Aw shit, I start at my new school today. In the middle of the freaking school year. I sighed, I wish I could just not go and live the rest of my life in peace. I quickly got dressed and walked downstairs to see my mom and Theresa sitting at the table eating. I made myself some toast and sat down with them.
"Good morning sweetie," my mom said as I sat down, "ready for school?" I groaned in response.
"Come on Tom, it won't be that bad." Theresa said with an eye roll.
"You're right," I replied bitterly, "it'll be worse."
"It will be with that attitude!" My mother cut in, her voice softened, "Thomas, I'm sorry. I really am, but can't you please at least try to make the best out of this?" A wave of guilt washed over me when she said that, she's only doing what's best for me.
"Alright," I said, "I'll try." A wide smile spread across her face. We finished eating in silence until Theresa and I had to leave.
"Bye mom!" Theresa called walking out.
"Bye mom!" I echoed following her out to our car. Walking out, Theresa tossed me the keys.
"You're driving!" She called hopping into the passenger seat. Rolling my eyes I allowed a small smile to cross my face, I'll try.
We'd been silent the whole ride to school, that is, until the building was in sight. My hands tightened on the steering wheel, my anxiety kicking in.
"Tom," Theresa broke the silence as I pulled into the parking lot and looked for a spot. "Let me know if you see any hot guys, or girls." She knew how much I hated all the reassuring bullshit, so she settled for a much more Theresa like comment.
"I will," I replied smiling slightly, "you'll do the same?"
"Duh!" I rolled my eyes and parked the car.
We got out of the car and began walking towards the school building. Walking in, the office was directly across from the entrance. We entered the office, told the secretaries our names, and soon enough we found ourselves sitting in front of the principal who strangely resembled a rat if you ask me. He had grey hair and introduced himself as Mr. Jansen Smith. After giving us our schedules and "welcoming" us to the school he asked if we'd like a tour. Before I could even respond to the question Theresa was out of her chair and at the door,
"No thanks, I like to explore. Bye Tom!" She called before walking out and letting the door slam shut behind her. I'm gonna kill her for this.
"What about you Thomas? Tour?" Mr. Smith asked.
"Sure." I sighed.
"Great, just give me one second." He replied before he too left me sitting in the room. He returned a few minutes later and gestured for me to follow him out into the hallway.
I got up and followed him into the hallway. Upon entering I noticed a tall, dirty blonde boy leaning against the wall of the office. Holy shit, I really hope he's single. Shit, and gay. I had to stop myself from staring. He turned to look at me, smiling he held out his hand,
"Name's Newt greenie." He said, he's so hot, and adorable, at the same time! How is that possible?? I shook his hand,
"Thomas." I replied. Before either of us could say more, Jansen walked out.
"Thank you Newton, for agreeing to give Thomas a tour." He said, "Don't be late for class boys." He walked back into the office and closed the door.
"Well Tommy," Newt said, "shall we?" I nodded, not trusting my voice. He called me Tommy. I love it. We started walking but we didn't get very far before someone called out to Newt. He stopped and looked in the direction of the voice, a tall guy with a buzz cut and weird eyebrows was walking towards us.
"Newt," He said, "where are you going?" It sounded slightly threatening, but Newt seemed to pay no mind to it.
"Rat man asked me to give the greenie here a tour." Newt replied. Guess I'm not the only one who thinks he looks like a rat. Buzz cut guy glared at me. "Come on Gally it's just a tour of the school." The guy, Gally, didn't seem to like the idea and continued glaring at me until he turned his eyes back to Newt.
"Fine, whatever." Gally said, "Meet me later." He kissed Newt's cheek and walked off. So much for him being single. Newt turned back to me and the two of us continued walking in the opposite direction Gally had gone.
"Sorry about him," Newt said, "he's a little overprotective."
"It's fine," I said with a little laugh, "I broke up with my last boyfriend when he started telling me what to wear. Overprotective is nothing." Newt laughed and I swear it was the greatest sound I've ever heard.
"Yeah, Gally hasn't gone that far." Newt replied. I smiled, I decided then that if I can't be his boyfriend, I want to at least be his friend. Maybe today won't be as bad as I thought.
