After an excruciating period of English - fidgeting in my seat almost the entire time - Mrs. Gunner finally shows me some mercy by ending it 5 minutes early.
I get up and instantly make a beeline for the exit. If possible, I want to avoid anyone or anything and just go straight to the next class; advance calculus.
Luna has calculus with Mr. Alan and as far as I know, he sets seating arrangements for all his classes. So that would mean the commotion which happened in English won't happen again.
As I'm speed-walking towards the exit, I catch Heston throwing another death glance at me as he, himself is walking up to see Mrs. Gunner.
Ugh, fuck it.
I'll just have to deal with that meat tower some time later. Whatever it is he has against me, I hope he already forgets about it by the end of today.
When my feet reach the exit, alongside the rest of the students, I suddenly feel my hand getting tugged away from the crowd.
I stagger sideways before finally gaining my footing. Annoyed, I look up to the culprit who decides to foil my plan of avoiding everyone and everything by tugging me away from the crowd.
But when my eyes meet those light blue orbs, words fail to come out of my mouth.
"Hey!" Poppy exclaims, putting her hands on my shoulder before dragging me further away from the crowd.
I look at her with a bewildered expression, not understanding what just happened. But her face shows a look that I can only describe as concerned. Before I can ask what is it that she wants, Poppy pulls me into a tight hug.
What the heck??
"Uhhh.. is everything okay?" I ask, trying my hardest to keep my voice from stuttering.
"I just heard what happened last Saturday," she whispers softly. "Why didn't you tell me Garrett did that to you?? I'm so sorry you had to face that all by yourself..." she continues with that voice which is giving me shivers.
Gulp.
My ears are able to hear what she's saying, but my mind fails to register it instantly.
All because of the fact that she's hugging me. Penelope Wyatt, my crush from the last three years is currently hugging me.
Exactly who can focus in this situation? I mean, her hug is so warm and comforting. Her light blond curls smell like fresh apples. And her soft voice sounds even better coming right next to my ear.
"Luna?" Receiving no answer, Poppy pulls away from me and I instantly flinch at the lost of contact. But she keeps her hands on both my shoulders.
Her eyes dart straight into mine. "Are you okay? Why didn't you tell us about this? I heard it from Indiana.." she explains, eyes filled with sympathy. Her eyebrows are knitted and her lips form a thin line at the bottom of her face.
