Chapter 26

My eyes dart towards Hunter. He seems to be as shocked as I am, seeing that he stays in his seat with his head turned back and eyes fixated on our uninvited guest.

The same goes to Garrett. He just stands there helplessly, shifting his weight slightly between his two feet. The look of guilt is clear on his reddened face.

"Wh- why are you..." finally, after the long pause, Hunter speaks up. He gulps, seemingly to have lost his words. "I mean, did you hear us? D-did you hear anything?"

At this question, my head begins to calculate how everything must've look in Garrett's eyes if he did heard us:  how Luna and Hunter called each other by their own names, how Luna is the one telling Hunter about Hunter's backstory and how our personalities had seemingly switched.

This is so wrong. So crazy. We must've sounded like two nutjobs to him.

I bravely fix my eyes to the tall boy at the back of the class.  At this, Garrett bites his lips cautiously and starts to step closer to us. The look of guilt on his face is replaced with anxiety. Then, he starts nodding his head lightly. "Sorry. Someone told me they saw you come here with Hunter, so I-"

"No. I don't care about that. Did you, or did you not hear what we talked about!?" Hunter suddenly roars, cutting Garrett off.

I jerk back at how loud his voice was.

I also personally don't like how harsh Hunter is acting in my body, but I'm just as curious as he is to object.

Garrett throws his head back before shoving his two hands into the pockets of his jeans. He nods at us again, a bit more reluctantly this time. "Yeah, yeah I did," he says, huffing.

"And I'm so fucking confused. I mean, it's none of my business, but," he stops, wiping his face with his hand before letting out a sigh.

He looks straight at Hunter. "What the actual hell is going on? Why did you call him Luna?"

"And wh- why did you call her Hunter!?" He asks, turning his eyes towards me instead.

I can feel a lump forming itself in my throat at his question.

But I don't reply. Instead, I just stare at him with my heart beating rapidly in my chest. Garrett's must be too, since he seems to be breathing heavily and that pretty face of his looks even redder than before. Needless to say, I'm at a lost and when I turn to Hunter for some help, he seems just as rigid as I am.

Finally, after not getting a single response from us, Garrett throws his arms up in the air and starts yelling.

"Wh-what kind of weird shit are you guys doing? If this is some kind of thing you're planning to mess with my head then congratulations! It's working pretty darn well because my mind is so fucked up right now!"

I can only gulp at his loud statement. I mean, oh god, what is happening?

Suddenly, before I can finally find the words respond to Garrett, he starts walking towards me with his hands balled into fists by his sides.

Oh boy..

Now he's standing right next to where I'm sitting. He looks down and squints at me. "Hunter, I'm sorry, okay? I get it. You hate me! I'm the bad guy who "stole" your mommy,"

A sigh escapes his lips. "But what are you trying to do? Since when are you friends with Luna? I mean, my problem with her has nothing to do with you!"
