I don't know if I've really touched on my favorite band

But it's Alice In Chains

If you don't know Alice In Chains, they're a group that rose to fame alongside Nirvana and Pearl Jam in the early 90's, also known as the grunge movement

Much like Nirvana, they also hailed from Seattle and their lead singer, Layne Staley, died at an early age

The only difference is that Kurt Cobain shot himself on purpose and Layne Staley overdosed on accident (the deaths were also several years apart)

Also unlike Nirvana, Alice In Chains is still together

They got a new lead singer in 2005 after a hiatus and still make new music today

A few of the original members are still in the band, like Jerry Cantrell

Alice In Chains is known for Man In The Box, Dirt, Got Me Wrong and their most famous song, Rooster. All of these songs were done when Layne Staley was with the group

I know that a lot of people say that their favorite bands saved their lives/helped them through dark times/inspired them to do great things

But that isn't the case with me

The truth is, I like most of the bands that were active during the grunge movement and I happen to like Alice In Chains more than the others

I'm not really sure why, but here I am

Their music just sounds nice and a good deal of their music has connections to the singer's experiences

They're mostly about experiences with substance abuse that Staley struggled with most of his life (with exception to Rooster and Man In The Box and probably most of their newer music)

You'll find that a lot of music from the grunge era has that general theme

Here's some songs if you'd like to take a listen (note that these are the older songs):

Man In The Box

Dirt

Got Me Wrong

Rooster

Dam That River

Angry Chair

Don't Follow

I Stay Away

Rain When I Die

No Excuses

Again
