To say that Sadiya was annoyed would've been an understatement.
"So you just stood there like an idiot and let him poke your eye?" She scolded.
"Umma there were other kids that held me. So I couldn't do anything," she said.
After trying to find her daughter's flaw and coming up empty,Sadiya sighed and said "well it's a good thing the school nurse treated it in time."
Lami had conveniently let Mustapha out of the story. She had no idea why,buy she couldn't bring him up. Nor could she tell her mother that he'll help her with her school work.
Her father,of course, just sighed and lamely scolded her to not fight in school. And said he doesn't have to go since his daughter was innocent, so there's nothing left to discuss with the principal.
"What do you mean?" Sadiya said. "There are wicked kids bothering your daughter and you're not even going to warn them? You will go!" Sadiya said huffing and going back into the room.

On saturday,Lami saw a boy when she was on her way back from talla. He had a metal case made where he store his goods that he sells. The goods are mostly snacks and school related books.
If I can save up for a case like that,I wouldn't be walking all over town, wasting my energy. Lami thought.
She made up her mind to save up for it.
When she went back home, she told her mom about it and her mother approved. She even promised to give her cash to add to hers too.
On Sunday when Lami was at islamiyya,Hamida kept bothering her with what would happen the next day.
She told her about Mustapha, but she didn't tell her she'll be seeing more of him. She told herself she was doing nothing wrong, but somehow, she wasn't quite convinced.
"But what if the whole class hates you now?" Hamida interrupted Lami's train of thoughts.
"I don't really have a friend in school. I don't think it'll be any different now," Lami said.
"If they beat you up,come back to our school," Hamida said.
"Baba cannot pay for it. You know," Lami trailed, she's somehow feeling less and less embarrassed about being poor.
Hamida just pouted. "Why don't you pay for it? You gain money now right?" She said.
And that was when Lami told her about her plan in opening the metal case where she'll keep her goods in.

Monday came. And even though Lami knew she didn't do anything wrong, she felt a shiver ran up her when the principal's office came into view."Get in, I don't want to waste any of my time here," Mallam Ali said, which was ironic because he was jobless.
Lami saw Abubakar, Binta,Rahama and Zainab in the office. They all had a male guardians, some were too young to be their fathers. Hauwa brought a female guardian, too young to be her mother. They all were frowning.
