Rivers POV

it has been two weeks since Ariadne has left her hotel room, or her bed for that matter.
as usual, i got her up for her bath.
i picked her up, i realized how uncomfortably thin she has gotten.

after her bath, i braided her hair and put her back in bed. she layed still for a few moments before she reached for her water bottle.
"honey? can i talk to you, please?" i asked.
she looked over at me with a full frown, and dark eyes.
"Ariadne, i want you to know that i am here. and i am not leaving, even if you want me to. you mean everything and more to me, and it puts me down to see you so low," i paused and watched the tear drip down her cheek.
"when i'm with you, i feel so happy. most people feel it is a burden to have responsibility over someone, but i love feeling that way about you. in fact, i love you, Ariadne." i shook with nervousness, waiting for a response.
"Riv, i love you." she whispered quietly.
i let out a breath of relief.
"is there anything i can do honey?" i asked.
she shook her head no, "i'm sorry Riv. there is no getting better." she said.
i gave her a kiss and pulled her close to me.

"up and at em!" Ariadne shouted.
i squinted my eyes, "what?"
"rise and shine! i brought you breakfast!" she said as she set down two plates of food at the table and took her rain coat off.
"it sure is pouring out there, you wouldn't believe it!" she said.
"what the, are you okay?" i said, rubbing the sleep from my eyes.
"peachy!" she said, planting a kiss on my cheek.
i got out of bed and went to the little table in our room.
she stepped out onto the balcony and lit a cigarette.
i finished my food and went out to join her.
she passed her cigarette over to me and we sat in silence.
what the hell is going on?
