Chapter Nine

Chapter nine

So, today is the day. The day I am going on a date with Matthew, Nash, Carter, and Cameron. I haven't met Nash or Carter's girlfriends yet and I'm excited to meet new people. It's just Cameron's girlfriend... she has made my life a living hell.

I decide to wear a dress. Yes. A freaking dress. It's a black dress that reaches my knees. It's simple and I like it. I slip on black converse and apply my eye liner and mascara. I brush out my hair and take one last look at myself. I look okay, I guess.

I hear my mum yell from the living room that Matthew is here. I puff out my cheeks and grab my phone. I don't have any pockets but I'm hoping that Matthew will so he can maybe hold it for me.

I walk out of my room and down the hall to the living room. I see my mum talking to him before I come into sight of them. My dad walks up behind me and stands next to me. He is eating toast. I like toast. "No sex." He says and walks away. I laugh and walk over to my mum and Matthew.

I see him. He is wearing black jeans with a blue shirt and a jacket over it which reads "Obey". I guess it's some brand of clothing.

He smiles when he sees me. My mum walks away and I walk out the door. I close it behind me and see his maroon truck parked on the sidewalk.

"Nash and Valerie are already there. Carter and Danny are on their way along with Cameron and Hayley." Matthew tells me. We walk to his car and we both get in. I buckle myself in and sigh.

"Can you hold this for me?" I ask him and hand him my phone. He takes it and puts it in his front jean pocket. He starts the car and music fills the car.

"You look nice." He says with a smile.

"And so do you." I say. He reaches over with his right hand and grabs my left hand. He intertwines our fingers and gives my hands a tight squeeze. The marks on my wrist have cleared up. And he notices. I see his eyes travel up and down my arm.

"The Dodge was my moms car. She let me borrow it since this bad boy was in the shop." He says. Matthew is sixteen, a year older than I. I can't drive yet.

During the ride to the movies Matthew is either singing, which for him is another term for screaming, to songs, or we are playing I spy.

We get there and see everyone sitting on the cement stairs that lead to to the entrance. I glance over Nash's girlfriend, Valerie. She has brown hair with green eyes. She is wearing short shorts with a tight shirt. Not my style. Danny, Carter's girlfriend, is wearing a dress, too. Only hers is all pink with glitter on the chest. Hayley, Cameron's girlfriend, looks just like she always does at school. She is wearing a short skirt with a long sleeved shirt and boots. Her artificial red hair comes down in curls and her makeup pops out.

Matthew and I get out of the car and walk over to them. They all stand up and we introduce ourselves, mostly just the girlfriends. I notice that Danny has a mild country accent, like Nash. Hayley has her eyes on me throughout the whole chat. I try to ignore her but her ice cold stare is not that easy to ignore.

The movie we watch is the movie that Matthew and I saw a trailer for on our date. I guess the movie is called The Fault In Our Stars.

We make our way to the theatre after buying the tickets. I sit next to Matthew and Danny. Matthew holds my hand as we talk during the previews, quietly.

"What's wrong?" he asks. Our faces are inches away so we don't bother anyone.

"Hayley, uh Cameron's girlfriend, she, um, kind of, uh, bullies me, just a little." I rush out the last part. He clenches his jaw and then gives me a sincere look.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know." He apologizes.

"It's not your fault." I say as the movie starts. I give his hand a squeeze and then look to the screen.

The movie was sad. It is based on a book and I could here Danny crying. I cried too. Who wouldn't? near the end of the movie I could hear Cameron and Hayley making out a few seats away from me. It was disgusting. I was tempted to tell them to get a room.

After the movie, we all split up around the theatre. There was an arcade that Matthew and I went to. I saw Cameron and Hayley go out side along with Nash and Valerie. Matt and I played little arcade games alone for a while until Carter and Danny came to join us. I liked Carter and Danny. They are cool.

"Come here." Matthew whispered to me as Danny and Carter were kissing. He grabbed my hand and pulled me outside. Before I knew it, Matthew had me against the wall.

"You're fast." I tell him. He laughs and looks to the ground. We both sit down on the cement, backs against the wall. Goosebumps appear on my skin and I see Nash and Valerie making out in the parking lot. Matthew and I watch them. Their kisses get more and more aggressive and then, Nash goes for her butt.

Matthew laughs and looks away. I do too. I felt dirty watching them.

"The movie was great." He says. I nod my head in agreement and look at him. He looks at me and places a hand on my cheek. We kiss for a good twenty seconds until it starts raining. It starts to freaking rain on one of the best moments in my life. Matthew and I rush to get up and we run to get under a cement roof outside the theatre. He takes off his jacket and places it around my shoulders.

He places a hand on my waist and continues the kiss that was rudely interrupted. A car horn honks as we split apart. I look and see my dad jumping out of the car. He runs to me. Matthew lets me go when my dad finally reaches us.

"What's wrong?" I ask him. His eyes are red, as if he were crying.

"It's Gavin. He fell. It's bad." he says in a rush. I look to Matthew and he looks at me.

"I'm sorry." I say and run back to the car with my dad, leaving Matthew behind. My mum drives as fast a she can to get to the hospital.

"How did you know I was here?" I ask.

"Matt told me." My mum says but chokes from crying. This must be very serious.

Gavin was in his room. He got up with his cane and went to the backyard. Our house is placed next to a lake. A steep hill separates us from it. He tripped and rolled down the hill. Wait, not rolled, fell. The hill is so steep he fell twenty feet. A hiker found him and called police. That's when my mum and dad came to pick me up. He's in the ICU.

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't updated. I am now on summer break and I just kind of want to get a little break before I start to update more. I have a booked summer, surprisingly. Did any of you go to see The Night Before Our Stars?? I DID. Amazing movie. I started to sob when the twentyth century thing came on.
