Part 20
It’s been about 3 months since I last saw Harry and the boys. Since then I have been trying to live my normal life. I have been trying to get a job and at this point it seems impossible. I have been on so many interviews that lead nowhere. It doesn’t help that a new picture of me at the mall or at Starbucks or walking my dog in the park gets plastered everywhere every few days. They still don’t know my name so at least I have that.
Harry and I have been keeping in touch through Skype. They have started planning for a new album and a World Tour so they’re busy. I haven’t told Harry yet but I have started looking for job in London. I can’t imagine it’s going to be easy to convince someone over there to hire somebody from the US but I have to try. So far I have heard from one company and luckily I have worked for this company here so I’m hoping I have an advantage.
I actually have an e-mail from the hiring manger that I have yet to read. I have been putting it off because I am scared of being let down. If I don’t get this then I don’t think I’ll get anything over there. ‘Amy, this is Denny Green from DHL in London. We have gone over your resume and if you can make it here tomorrow for an interview we will strongly consider hiring you for the dispatch position we have available.’
Tomorrow? How am I going to get a flight to London for tomorrow? I imagine this is going to cost me a fortune if I even can find anything. I hop on all the travel websites you could think of to find a flight to London…hopefully tonight. The stars are going to have to align just right for this to go my way.
Ok so there is an available flight leaving tonight, 3 hours to be exact, which means I have to leave right now. I will have to pay right now. It’s so much money but this is my future. I have to try. I text my friend ‘I have to go to London. Watch after Wonka. Key is under the mat. No time to explain.’ I click checkout and print out my ticket. I am actually doing this, there is no turning back. There is no time to pack so I throw an interview outfit into a bag, grab my passport, and fly out the door. Luckily I live not far from the train station so I run to the train station, buy a ticket, and hop on the next train to Newark Airport. Am I actually going to make it?
While I am on the train I reply back to the e-mail that I will be in London tonight and will be able to interview tomorrow. When it’s time to get off the train I make sure I am the first off the train and the first onto the monorail. Everything is riding on whether or not getting through security will be smooth or not. I guess it’s good that I haven’t packed much.
I get to security and slip off my shoes and put them on the conveyor belt along with my bag and cell phone. I go through the metal detector and I’m home free. I collect my things and put my shoes on. I check the time. I have about 15 minutes to get to my gate. I basically sprint through the airport until I see my gate. There are still people on line. I am not too late. I hand the woman my ticket and passport. I’ve made it. I may not be able to pay rent for a few months but I made it. I get to my seat and throw my bag into the overhead compartment and sit down and breathe a huge sigh of relief. Nothing is going to get in my way now.
“Attention passengers, we are going to have a bit of a delay due to some rough weather rolling through. It should be about a half hour.”
