It's been about a month since we've gotten Hemingway. He's a good dog and he's really energetic and fun. He's like another Pete, only furryier and smaller.
"I'm going to go for a walk." Pete kissed the top of my head.
"Alright." I said, not glancing up from my book.
"I said..." Pete cleared his throat. "I'm going to go for a walk."
I looked up this time. "I heard you," I looked back down.
Pete let out an over dramatic sigh and grabbed the book and set it down. Then he grabbed my arm and pulled me up.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Taking you and Hemingway for a walk." he stated.
"Okay..."
On our walk, Hemingway met a ton of people who loves him.
Then there was this lady who had a little girl between the ages of 7 and 8. The lady was paying for a lemonade at this farmers market looking place we were passing.
The little girl squealed. "ITS A PUPPY!" Then she ran over to us.
Us, being two grown men didn't know what to do. We didn't wanna seem creepy talking to a little girl.
The lady who I was guessing was her mom turned and had a look to fear in her eyes. "No, Razzel! Come here. You don't walk away from me and up to strangers, do you understand?" The woman grabbed the little girl by the arm and yanked her back.
Razzel looked down. "Yes, Ma'am." she said quietly.
The lady sighed and released the girl. "Now, if you want to pet the puppy, what do you do?"
The girl glanced up at us shyly through her eyelashes. Her red bangs falling in her face. "I ask." she whispered. She looked at Pete and giggled. "You're wearing makeup!" she said.
The lady looked up at us apologetically. "I'm sorry. This is one of my orphans Razzel. She loves dogs... and makeup... as you can see."
Pete stared down at the girl for a minute before nodding. "I am." he said.
She smiled and walked up to him, taking his hand. "My name's Razzel! What's yours?"
"Pete." He said.
She looked at me. "What's your name, Mister?"
"Patrick."
"Razzel, they don't want to talk to you. Now c'mon! We need to finish the shopping." The lady said.
Razzel pouted. "But I wanna stay here with the puppy."
"They're strangers." the lady stated bluntly.
"No they're not! That's Pete, And that's Patrick. They're my new friends!"
Pete and I looked at each other as Razzel walked between us and took our hands.
Pete smiled.
I couldn't help but return the favor.
Then Pete looked at the lady. "Mrs...?"
"Jackson... Miss Jackson." she didn't look interested.
"Well, Miss Jackson... Can we talk to you?" he asked.
She looked confused then she got the message. "That quickly?"
I looked at Pete. "Are you sure?" I asked.
He shrugged. "Wanna talk about it first?" he asked.
I nodded.
Miss Jackson smiled and handed us a card. "Call me when you have your decision." Then she looked at Razzel. "C'mon, sweetheart."
"But..."
"C'mon... you can come back... okay?"
Razzel nodded excitedly and took Miss Jackson's hand and walked off.
-At.Home-
"Pete... were you really thinking of adopting her?" I asked.
Pete nodded and set the leash by the front door.
I frowned. "But we just got a puppy." I said.
He shrugged. "C'mon... a kid could be fun... plus Razzel is pretty cute..." He wrapped his arms around my waist from behind.
I nodded. "Its up to you, baby. Whatever makes you happy."
"Being with you makes me happy." he said, pressing a kiss to the back of my neck.
I smiled.
"Can we?" he asked.
I nodded. "Yes, babe... I told you yes."
-At.The.Orphanage-
"I'm so glad you guys came to adopt Razzel." Miss Jackson said, leading us to a room. She opened the door and Razzel was sitting on a bed staring out a window. "Razzel, honey?" Miss Jackson knocked on the door lightly.
Razzel turned her head and her eyes lit up when she saw Pete and I. "It's Pete and Patrick!" she ran up to us and gave us a hug.
I laughed. "Hey, Razzel!"
"You guys came back!" she smiled.
I nodded.
"Of course!" Pete said.
Miss Jackson cleared her throat. "So, Mr. and Mr. Wentz... I need to speak with you two about her."
Razzel's blue eyes filled with fear and she scrambled back to the bed, sitting on the end and looked at the floor, swinging her feet slightly.
Pete and I retreated back to the hall, Miss Jackson followed. "If you would please follow me to my office."
We sat down in her office and Miss Jackson started instantly. "Razzel's had a bit of a bumpy past."
"How so?" Pete asked.
Miss Jackson sighed. "She witnessed her parents death... They were murdered."
-Pete.POV-
She sighed. "She witnessed her parents death... They were murdered."
Patrick tensed.
I took his hand and nodded, urging Miss Jackson to continue.
"She's been in therapy for four years, then the appointments just... stopped. She seems a lot happier. But her past is a very touchy subject. Sue has nightmares frequently and she is very needy. She's been adopted by four families so far. But they've all given up on her. She thinks that she's not worth a family. So you adopting her will change her mind."
"We won't give up on her. We will work through this." Patrick said. "I can relate, except I didn't experience it..." he looked down and I rubbed my thumb on the back of his hand soothingly. He smiled at me.
"She is really excited to live with you guys." Miss Jackson stood up and lead us to the door.
"And we're excited to welcome her to our family." I kissed Patrick's cheek.
