"And so that's why I'm pretty sure Jason's just trying to get back onto me, by playing with my best friend's feelings" Tristam finished grimly. I just kind of sat on the polished posh red couch, with mixed feelings. Jason's one side, the side that I saw, was sweet, kind, friendly...his other was mean, revengeful, a player.

"Are you sure that's the case?" I double-checked, a part of me hoping that he was lying, that he would just laugh it off and say he was joking.

"Of course I'm sure, I wouldn't lie...that's Jason's job"

"Okay, fine. But what about Clarence? What are we going to do about her? She's falling into his trap. And fast" I worried, twirling a piece of my hair in between two fingers.

"Which is why you need to help me break them up"

"Oh come on, it's been what? 3 hours since they just met? How fast do you think that boy moves?" I laughed, but quieting down when I saw Tristam's serious face.

"Fast. I bet you by now they're kissing"

"Fine, we'll see about that" I shook my head as we got off the couch, opening the door to the kitchen. Where I thought all I was going to see was cupboards, food, furniture. Instead, I saw cupboards, food, and two particular people snogging on the furniture.

"Ew!" I exclaimed, covering my eyes. My sound had alerted the two of them, causing Clarence to turn ten brilliant shades of red, and try, and scoot away from Jason, while Jason just smirked and caught her hand so she couldn't.

"Hey, guys, want some coffee?" Jason asked casually, smiling his winningly pearly white smile, two dimples appearing on his...wow, no, he's not meant to be charming.

"No thanks, actually we were on the way to leaving" Tristam said coolly, walking towards Clarence.

"Hey, what's the rush? You guys can stay here for the night. We have a couple of spare rooms and the floor" He looked directly into Tristam's eyes at the last word.

"No, we're leaving" Dylan said firmly, stepping in.

"I see I won't be able to change your minds. See you tomorrow, Clarence" He winked, lazily pulling her into another kiss, where at that point I sprinted towards them, puling Clarence away.

"Uh yeah, tomorrow" I emphasized, shooting him a look. He frowned slightly at my change my mood but quickly turned it into a grin.

"Sure, tomorrow" He got up from the chair and led the way to the front door, opening it and gesturing outside.

"Bye" Clarence breathed, staring at him with awe.

"Night" I waved, walking backwards and dialling my brother's number at the same time. The door closed and I put my phone near my ear, waiting for him to pick up.

"Isn't he charming? Oh god Katie, he kissed me'" Clarence whispered, staring into the night sky with plain love plastered on her face.

"Hey Adam...yep...now...okay, see you then" I ended the call, and turned towards Clarence.

"Clarence, I know he's charming, sweet, attractive...but he's not what he seems. He's got another side. And it's a playing side. He's a player. Don't fall into his trap, trust me, there are so many other guys that are-"

"Whoa, Katie, chill. What's all this about him being a player? You liked him when you met him" She asked, holding her hands up with a confused expression.

"Yeah, liked him. Not anymore. You can learn a lot about one person in one conversation..." I trailed off, my eyes flickering to the boys, who were leaning against the fence, talking and laughing together.

"Oh, so who told the lies?" She scowled, her happy vibrant eyes turning a shade darker.

"I..." I fumbled for a moment. Hell, if she found out, she'll think he's lying and they're technically family. I don't want them to fight; it's all too familiar. And it hurts. "I have to go" I finished, running backwards to my brother's familiar silver car.

"No, wait! Katie, who told you?" She yelled out, cupping her hands over her mouth.

"I'll tell you...I'll tell you when I can!" I yelled back, waving at her as I climbed into the car.

"Hi" I grinned at my brother, who raised an eyebrow as we drove home.

"Hey, how was it? How many guys? Who was she? Anyone try and hit on-"

"Whoa, Adam, chill" I laughed, smacking his shoulder lightly.

"I won't until you tell me" He pouted childishly.

"Gee, okay...It was great, five, Clarence, and no" I said, plaiting a strand of my hair out of sheer boredom.

"Okay, I'm chill...but the devil and the criminal aren't"

"Let me guess...Nicole got busted" I sighed, dropping my hands down on my lap.

"Big time" He added. "She just can't be a good girl for more then two seconds can she?"

"She used to be" I said quietly, remembering the good times, when my sister and mum didn't fight, when we were actually a happy family.

"Remember the time when mum and I came home from a football match and the two of you were lying on the floor, colouring in the wall with elephants in tutu's?" He smiled as I laughed, the sad atmosphere slowly disappearing.

"Yeah, mum totally freaked" I giggled, remembering her shocked, yet loving face.

"And the time when we all attempted to make a birthday cake for mum for her birthday? Um yeah, the key word there being attempted..." I laughed again, remembering the burnt biscuit looking cake with watery icing.

"And the time when we all just sat on the veranda couch, squashed but warm, cuddling and just watching the sun rise" I added, a smile playing on my mouth.

"Of course I remember, it was one of my best days of my life" We climbed out of the car as we arrived in front of our familiar house. My smiled disappeared as we drew near the house, the yelling, shouting, cussing in the house loud and angry.

"I say in five, we run into our rooms" Adam muttered, opening the door slowly. I nodded in agreement and we sprinted up the stairs, slamming our doors behind us. Still, no matter how fast I ran, I couldn't block out Nicole's last words before I entered the safety of my room. I hate you mum, I hate you, I wish you'd left instead of dad.

Tears stuck to my face, leaving me how an earth it got there. I sniffled silently to myself as I slipped out of the room, blocking the noises of their yelling. I opened Adam's door, where he was lying down on his bed, closing his eyes.

"Adam?" My own voice sounded wobbly, and I tried to soothe it. "Can I stay with you for the night? I can still hear them from my room"

"C'mon Kat, I don't bite" He smiled faintly, scooting over and opening his arms. I slipped into his bed, feeling comforted in his warm, protective arms. I tried to fall asleep, and tried to forget mum's response to Nicole's. You know what, Nicole Zoe Jackson? Sometimes, I wish I did too.
