You woke up in a familiar room. It was dark. This time was different than last time though. The room was dimly lit and there were more people. The people were crying out in pain as men in black suits were making deep cuts all over their bodies with the biggest knives you had ever seen. Blood was everywhere. The people were cuffed to the wall and their feet were tied together with a thick rope. There were mothers among them. Their children walked into the light, men in black suits following behind them. The men all pulled out a katana. One of the men, probably the leader, shouted a command and the men readied their swords. The children's mothers screamed out for the men to stop, begging them to take their lives instead of their children's. The men showed no mercy as another command was shouted and it all happened fast. The men in the black suits raised their sword and in one smooth movement, they beheaded the children. The mothers screamed out for their babies. You saw it all happen, but it felt like you were frozen in your spot. You weren't able to move, you weren't able to speak. All you could do was stare at the scene in front of you. You wanted it to stop. You needed it to stop. A man walked up to you with a blank expression on his face. He had black hair which reached just past his ears. He had brown eyes which seemed empty. He looked like he had lost his soul and he was just a shell of a person walking on this earth. The man took out a knife and stabbed you in the gut. You didn't scream. You had expected to feel pain, but you didn't. Everything seemed to move in slow motion and the screams started to sound more and more distant. You dully heard someone calling out your name and felt some sort of dull pressure on your arms.
Your eyes shot open as you sat up, gasping for air. Bucky was standing by your side. He must've been the one to wake you up. In that case, this was just a nightmare. But was it? Was it really just a dream? It was so graphic. Everything was so detailed. It seemed like there was a high quality motion picture playing in front of you. It felt so real at the same time. It must've been what happened before you woke up and Steve found you before taking you to the facility. Tears pooled in your eyes and you just couldn't hold it back any longer. You broke out into loud sobs as a river of tears started streaming down your cheeks. Bucky sat down next to you on the bed and hugged you close. He stroked your hair in a comforting manner while whispering that it was all just a dream and that everything was just fine. Slowly but steadily you started to calm down a bit. "Thank you," you sniffled while moving out of Bucky's embrace. He shyly smiled at you and nodded. He wasn't much of a talker. He had all the reasons to be quiet though. I mean, his girlfriend just got switched up with an alternate universe version of her.
You were wondering who you were and what kind of person you were in this universe. You also wondered how you even ended up as Bucky's girlfriend. You decided to ask him: "Who am I in this universe, Bucky? How did we meet?" Bucky looked down and smiled a bit. "That's quite a long story but I figure we've got the time here." He looked up at you. You nodded for him to continue. "I was on a mission for Hydra to take you down when we first met. In this universe you are one of the highest rank SHIELD agents and a huge threat to Hydra. When they found out about you, they were quite alarmed to say at the least. You're an assassin and spy and you're easily capable of taking out at least 20 men in under a minute. Besides the assassin stuff, you also work with Tony. You design new weapons and upgrades for them for us to use in battle. Sometimes it's kind of scary how many ways you are able to find to kill a person in a simple situation such as drinking coffee in a living room. You also create a lot of our action and battle plans. When Hydra found out you created a waterproof plan to take down three of their biggest bases, they knew they had to stop and take you down immediately. They decided to send in their best assassin, which was me at that time. I remember they told me to attack you while you were grocery shopping at the mall. It was one of the first undercover missions I had ever went on. I waited for the right moment to attack and when that moment came, I jumped into battle. You reacted quickly and fended me off. We fought for a few minutes before you managed to take my mask off. You are great friends with Steve and he had shown you some pictures and told you quite a lot about me before. You recognized me almost immediately. You just knocked me out and took me to the Avengers Tower. There you and the other Avengers helped me to turn back to my old self and you helped me with my arm as well. We slowly grew closer to each other and not too much later we became boyfriend and girlfriend."
You smiled at him. "I'm really sorry this has happened. I mean, it must be quite annoying when your girlfriend gets switched up with her alternate universe self which is just a dumbass like me." you said, looking down at your lap. "Hey, don't say that about yourself. You are actually almost the same person personality wise. You have such a kind nature. You are so selfless and you're always willing to help others out when they need help or when they're in trouble." He paused for a moment before continuing:
"While you were asleep, you were screaming for someone to stop hurting the people. Do you think it has something to do with what happened and where you woke up? Your dream, I mean." He said and looked at you. You looked him in the eye and thought back to what you had seen in your dream. You saw all the blood, the screaming mothers and the beheaded children, the huge knives, the men in the suits. It was all just a clear image. A short movie playing in your head. You flinched back to reality. You squeezed your eyes shut and looked down before nodding slightly. "It probably does, but I really hope it doesn't. The things I saw happening there they were just... Cruel. People were being tortured, children were being beheaded, blood was everywhere, the mothers were screaming out for their children, begging for their lives to be spared. All of that was what I saw happening in front of me but I wasn't able to do anything," you told him before breaking down again. Bucky was quick to pull you into another hug and try to comfort you the best he could.
Suddenly Tony came walking in with Steve by his side. You were still a crying mess. Bucky quickly told them about the nightmare and what you saw. Steve sat down besides you while Tony left the room, deciding it was best to let you calm down a bit before telling you what was probably actually going on here.
Now here you were, being comforted by two super soldiers in a hospital bed. It wasn't long before you slowly started to doze off into a fitful sleep. Every time you'd wake up because of another nightmare, either Steve of Bucky would be there to comfort you and whisper comforting words to you until you fell back asleep.
Suddenly you heard a voice. It was deep and dark, mysterious. It didn't sound exactly familiar but you still had some sort of feeling of familiarity while hearing it.
"Y/n, surrender to me. Follow me into the darkness. You can do it."
To be continued....
