TWO WEEKS LATER
ADRIENNE
The early evening air was thick in my house as I lay stiffly on the chaise. All day my mother had excitedly discussed wedding preparations for my wedding.
It was to be held in a week.
In a week, my wings would be clipped; stifled forever.
My mother and father sat at the dining table, talking about the wedding. The guests, the tablecloths and everything I didn't care about.
"Mother, father. May I go upstairs?" I asked, desperate to see my angel; despite it still being quite early.
"Yes" my father gruffly answered.
Slipping out the back door as usual, I headed straight for the forest.
"Adrienne"!
I thought I hear someone call my name, as I looked around; but saw no-one. Ignoring it, I hopped the fence and followed the path.
Sitting on my log, I called out for my angel.
"Angel?" I called out.
I waited for a few minutes, which felt like hours before I had my answer.
"Adrienne" He said in that beautiful husky voice of his.
God, I wish I could hear that voice forever.
"Angel, c-can you please just h-hold me" I begged, instantly regretting it. I just needed to feel that safe again, in his arms. I felt his embrace warm me, protect me
And I let the tears fall...
"I j-just can't go on like this Angel, this constant pain. Why me? Why God"?
"Mon Lumière." I heard him whisper, pulling me closer to him.
"I'm getting married in a week to a horrible man. A man who I will never love". "Am I deserving of this? Why must I be unhappy Angel"?
I felt a hand stroke my hair as I leaned closer to my angel.
"My Adrienne, life is never fair. It can dull any light, but you mustn't let it ruin you".
"Because you my dear, are a star".
I shivered a bit, and felt a warm cloak wrap around me.
"Don't let anything or anyone dull you, Mon Lumière".
"Angel, God bless you; my only solace through everything".
"A-angel... I lo-"
I stopped, unsure. There was no way this angel sent from heaven could ever. I was so nieve.
"Angel, will you please take me home?" I asked softly.
"Of course".
As my angel led me down the path, I felt shame rise inside of me. How could this Angel ever love a human like me?
It was a foolish thought.
Reaching the edge of the forest, I slipped my hand out of his.
"Thank you angel; I shall see you tomorrow".
"Until then my Adrienne" he responded.
Hopping the fence, I looked back for a second; yet saw nothing. All these years, and I've never seen the angel in light, only in darkness. I snuck home, darting through the streets.
CREAK!
I cringed as the back door creaked open; the same way It had been doing for years.
"How kind of you to join us Adrienne" I heard my father's voice echo.
Oh no.
"Won't you come and sit with our guest" my mother added. Heading into the parlor, dread filled me. My fiance, Abigor sat at the table with my very angry parents.
"Pray tell wife; where were you going this late at night?" Abigor asked sneering.
"Uhm..." I quietly answered.
"Foolish girl! Do you know what lays in that forest!" my father bellowed, his face contorting with rage. "I won't have any fiance of mine running in there" Abigor added.
"Adrienne. You are NEVER to go in that forest again" my father yelled anger tainting is tone.
"No!" I screamed as I felt my heart shatter into tiny fragments. My angel was my only reason for living, and without him; I was nothing. Nothing but a broken girl.
"I won't have any fiance of mine running around at night either." Abigor bitterly said, madness swirling in his eyes.
"Please" I begged; desperate to just see him again. Just one more time.
"No." my father answered coldly as I ran from the room.
Running into my room; I slammed the door behind me. This was no longer a house, it was a glorified prison. A way for my parents to drag me like a marionette, to live like they wanted.
"NO!" I cried into my bedsheets.
"I CAN'T BE WITHOUT HIM" I cried.
I would be all on my own. All alone.
He was always there. When I was happy, or sad; or crying. He protected me, cared for me. Sang to me; with his beautiful angelic voice and warm embrace.
Without him, life wasn't living. I couldn't go on. But he was an angel, had more important things than humans like me.
"I-I L-LOVE HIM" I sobbed.
"I LOVE HIM"!
I let my tears create a river, as I drifted away into the darkness.
"Adrienne! Adrienne" my mother's voice shook me from my sleep.
I turned to look at her; my face probably blotchy and red. I could feel the tear tracks still lingering on my face.
"You're a mess. Eat something and I'll get you cleaned up" my mother ordered.
"N-no" I began crying, pushing away the food. It was the last thing on my mind.
So my mother left.
A few hours later she returned but had no avail. I refused to do anything, eat anything. My father came up, shouting and yelling. But nothing could break me out of the sadness I was stuck in.
Abigor came later in the afternoon, but I refused to see him. My mother dragged me downstairs to talk, but I sat and stared blankly at them; not saying a word.
"I think she's gone mad" my mother whispered alarmed. Even Abigor tried for a bit, then left mumbling something about the tavern.
I walked back up to my room, then sat and stared at the wall while I devised a plan in my head.
I was going to break outside this hell that holds me.
When nighttime fell, I was going to escape.
All on my own.
