I sauntered up to the front door, confidence radiating with knwoing that I had a whole pack to back me up if things went wrong with my father.
I knocked on the door and waited. I knew they were awake; my father wouldn't sleep knowing Zane was in town. Concern laced through my veins a little, and I wondered how Michael was doing. He was injured pretty badly, and I wasn't sure how long it would take him to fully recover.
A few moments later, the door cracked open and I met the gentle yet scared eyes of my mother. I pushed the door open and walked past her. "I need to talk to Dad," I said.
"About what?" came my father's voice from my left. I looked over and saw him sitting calmly on the couch with his hands folded into his lap.
I crossed my arms over my chest as I turned to face him. "Zane's dead, Michael is safe, and now it's time to deal with you," I replied.
He gave me a long look and then stood up from the couch and walked towards me, straightening his posture to make him appear taller and more intimidating. But I stood my ground just like any other alpha would. "And how do you plan on 'dealing' with me?" he asked.
"The wolves who want to surrender to the Dahlia Pack will become part of the pack, the ones who don't will have the choice to leave, those who don't leave will be killed," I answered.
He looked me directly in the eyes challengingly, scanning my expression for any signs that I didn't mean the words that came from my mouth. But I meant every fucking word. "That's not going to happen," he finally said. "If anyone's going to surrender, it'll be you."
His hand snaked out and grabbed my throat. Without hesitation I balled my fist and delivered my famous right-hook that connected on his jaw with a loud smacking sound. His head jerked to the right and I stepped back out of his grip as he fell the ground, cradling his jaw tenderly. I stood over him, baring my fangs as I spoke. "So what'll it be, Jack?" I asked, not even bothering to call him Dad any longer. He was no longer family, only the alpha of a rival pack that I once was apart of. "Surrener, leave, or die?"
He tried to stand up, but I grabbed his shoulder and dug my nails into his muscle as I pushed him back down to the ground.
"Surrender, leave, or die?" I repeated with a snarl.
He looked up at me with the harsh, fatherly glare that hadn't worked on me since I was seven. I only glared right back at him, daring him to try and fight me. If I wasn't afraid to kill my controlling uncle, I sure as hell wouldn't be afraid to kill my controlling father. "We'll leave," he finally said.
"Actually," my mother said hesitantly behind us.
He turned his angry brown eyes to my mother and I glanced back at her.
"I surrender, and would like to be a Dahlia wolf," she finished, flinching when my father narrowed his eyes at her. "And I'm sure the other wolves will surrender too."
"Not me," someone said as they strode into the room from the kitchen. I looked up and saw Sarah standing there, breathing a little hard and looking a little dazed.
"Then leave," I replied. "With my coward of a father."
I let go of his shoulder and backed up to stand by my mother. He stood up, rubbing his shoulder and glaring at us as Sarah went to stand by him. "Fine," he said. "Then they're all traitors."
"I guess we are," said another voice. I looked over and saw Alice and Lilly standing in the doorway, looking at us. Lilly was the one who spoke. "But we're traitors who would rather have the stronger and nicer alpha."
I looked back at my father who now looked desperate and scared. His pack would leave him, and he knew that. At that moment, I realized why he was so controlling. He was afraid of one wolf rising against him because he knew that if someone did, they would all leave him. He kept them at bay by being vicious and abusive. And he was right to be afraid, because that one wolf was his own daughter. And now I had two packs to back me up. I smiled at my father. "Looks like you'd better get going," I said.
