Summer, 1989

"Mom, I'm going for a bike ride!" Avira shouted as she pulled her bike out from the shed.

"Don't come back too late! Remember, kids in Derry are going missing." Ms. Jackson replied as Avira started riding down the street.

Her dark hair with deep red tones blew in the breeze as she rode down the street. Her eyes changed from green to grey as she turned the corner on Neibolt Street. Avira looked up at the old house on the corner as her bike slowed to a stop in front of the iron gate. She hated the house with a burning passion ever since she was younger. It gave her an odd feeling in her chest.

The old, bolted door creaked open as the warm breeze turned cold. She got off her bike and slowly began walking to the  door. The wood creaked beneath her feet as she reached the open door.

"Uh, hello?" Avira called as she stepped inside the house.

"Avira." A soft, yet un-human like voice called. The voice echoed the through the house, getting softer and softer. "Come here."

The voice whispered again and Avira began to walk towards the stairs until she heard a voice yell from outside. "Avira! What are you doing?" Avira turned around to see her friend Beverly standing outside the gate with her bike.

A low hiss came from upstairs. "I, uh, heard something weird. Just, never mind." She walked outside and heard another hiss from inside the house. The door remained open as she walked over to Beverly.

"Okay.? I was going to the Quarry cause' I got invited by a couple boys. You know Bill Denbrough, right?" Avira nodded and Bev continued. "Well, wanna go with me? It could be fun Avi."

"Uh, sure." Avira said, and got on her bike and followed Bev. Avira glanced back at the house one last time before it disappeared from view.

At the Quarry

"Well, who's gonna jump first?" Bill, Richie, Eddie, Ben and Stanley looked over the edge.

"I'll go!" Bev said as she got off her bike and took off her dress. All the boys looked at her and Avira took off her shorts and shirt. "Oh, this is my friend Avira by the way. I hope you guys don't mind that I  brought her."

"No! Of course not. W-welcome to the Losers' Club A-Avira." Bill gave her a warm smile as he introduced the boys to her.

Avira's POV

I smiled at the boys. They seemed quite nice, and nice people were always nice to have around. I felt the slight itch in my eyes as the colour changed from green to grey. I quickly looked away, hoping no one noticed the shift. I turned my attention to Bev who jumped into the water.

"What the fuck!" Richie shouted, looking over the edge at her.

"Avira! Come on!" Bev shouted from the water below.

The boys looked at as i ran back a bit. "Watch this." I said with a sly smirk on my face as I ran to the edge of the cliff,  jumped, did a flip in midair then dive into the water below.

"What the fuck!" Richie yelled. "How did you jump so far?"

I ran my hands through my damp hair. I had always been able to run fast and jump higher. I always thought it had something to do with the fangs and claws, but never bothered questioning it. It always gave me a headache to think about.

Soon, all the boys were in the water and we had a splash fight. "Hey there gorgeous." I heard a voice with a British accent behind me.

"Hey Richie." I sighed, not turning around.

"How did you know it was me, doll?" he asked and I shrugged. He wrapped his arms around my waist and mumbled. "Why don't we ditch these losers' and go to my house babe."

I rolled my eyes, feeling the familiar sensation of my eyes switching colour.  I looked away for a minute then said, "In your dreams, Trashmouth."

"Uh, did your eyes just change color?" he asked curiously, a confused look crossing his face.

"Um no. Well maybe, the light makes my eyes look different sometimes," I lied, speaking the words that came to my mind first.

"Okay," Richie replied. I sighed in relief as we got out of the water.

Bev and I decided to tan in the sun after the long swim. I spread my dark hair out on my towel and looked up at the sky. I could see the boys looking at Beverly and I. I  couldn't help but smirk and shake my head. Dumb boys and their hormones.

I rolled my head to the side and looked at the boys who immediately looked away. I quickly sat up when I saw the red balloon floating next to a few trees by the main road. It looked too familiar I shuddered, though I sat in the sun and warmth.

"Avira..." the voice whispered.
