"Don't do that, Yoongi."
"Do what?"
"Say things like that."
"Why?"
Sighing, So Ra placed all the food on their dining table and sat down, motioning for Yoongi to sit opposite her. "One, this is a contract marriage, where both of us signed on for it to lasts until the baby is born. And then we make a public announcement that we annulled the marriage, and continue with our lives separately, make it seemed like the baby is yours."
"We can just break the contract." Yoongi said nonchalantly, scooping the rice into their bowls.
"And what about your parents, then? You'd be okay if they had to pay back the money?"
Yoongi hung his head low. "No."
"How much did I worth, Yoongi?"
The man held up his fingers to answer her question. The fact that he had to use both hands made her feel both amazed and subdued.
Her parents would pay that much for her, but it was all to save their societal rankings.
Yoongi groaned. "If only I have that much money to give to mom and dad."
"You know Yoongi, I'm kind of glad you don't." She smiled when Yoongi frowned. "Or else, I would have to marry someone else."
The man finally smiled too and So Ra's heart thumped. She remembered her second point.
"That's the first reason why we shouldn't fall for each other again." She placed her chopsticks down and looked at him. "You made up that clause in the contract, Yoongi. The reason why we're divorcing after the baby's born," So Ra had to take in a deep breath before continuing, "is your girlfriend."
A part of So Ra wanted Yoongi to comfort her, say they broke up, say they would break up, say he didn't know it was So Ra he was marrying hence that stupid clause, say anything as an assurance.
Instead Yoongi nodded. "You're right."
So Ra didn't remember how she felt when they broke up years ago.
But it sure didn't hurt as much as this.
