This song from The Beauty and the Beast (Lyrics: Tim Rice, Music: Alan Menken) captures in a perfect way the essence of this story: love is what drives us, what can destroy us, but also what will save us in the end.
How did this story come into being and what is it about?
I love Tolkien, I love Thranduil and I love writing, so it was only logical to put those three together and create a romance involving the Elvenking. But this story is more than a simple love story. It is a tale of loyalty, sacrifice and the search for redemption and how grief and guilt can be overcome by a force stronger than both: love. But it is also a story about the vital bond between the King and his forest and how both their fates are inseparably entwined.
The story is of course based on Tolkien's works, mainly The Hobbit (book and movies), with some events from The Silmarillion and TheUnfinished Tales. Although my aim is to stay as true to Tolkien as possible, not everything will be according to canon, and I am taking some liberties as I see fit. You will also find elements of folklore, fairy-tale, Norse mythology (Tolkien's own source for many of his ideas and concepts). All these are mixed with ideas of my own, including my personal belief that Thranduil never sailed to Valinor - and you will see why.

The story itself begins on August 25, 2941 T.A. (= Third Age), running parallel to the events taking place in The Hobbit. But he is running out of time and if he fails, the Woodland Realm with fall with him.
When Anna, a mere human, finds herself at his mercy and, he mysteriously chooses to keep her alive, she is faced with a choice: heal his broken heart or find her way home; a decision that might tear her apart or make her whole again.
A tale of bittersweet love, sacrifice, and the search for absolution.
