Prologue

I watch him fidget in the chair in front of my desk, not being able to let the words escape his mouth, "What's wrong?" He gives me a one eyed look, nervous, scared even.

"It's my son." Narrowing my gaze, I lean forward, placing my elbows on my desk, "What about your son, Mr. Horan?" I've known this man for about five years and I've never heard of him having a son nor have I seen him act in this manner.

Again, he struggles with his words, his face showing it all. "You know, you can talk to me. No one will hear you except god and myself." I try to calm his nerves and his body physically relaxes for a moment, but his unnatural behavior is still present.

"My son is gay." He whispers, clearly ashamed, but there's a hint of defeat in his voice. I cock my head to the side and examine him. What is he asking? My heart aches at the mention of a same sex attraction, but I dismiss the thought.

"I'm sorry Mr. Horan, but we're not that kind of church, and I'm certainly not that kind of pastor." I tell him, shaking my head in disbelief. Did he want me to try and pray the gay out of him?

"But, pastor you don't understand, it's not that I don't accept it, but my wife does not approve of it and I'm tired of hearing her treat my son with such hate. I just thought since in your testimony you said that before you knew god you were a homosexual, but once you went down the holy path, it all changed for you, so I thought you could help guide my son down the holy path." He explains exactly what I was thinking, but in a different, more reasonable, manner. I purse my lips and look over Mr. Horan's head, towards the poster that is placed on my door, "God is willing to help you, if you are willing to receive."

I don't like being involved with same sex situations. I made a promise to god that I wouldn't be involved in any of those types of actions, but looking back at the poor, desperate man, how can I decline?
