Introduction

At the very start of Unit 2, you learned about the ~는 것 principle over the course of many lessons. In these lessons, you learned how to make sentences/verbs/adjectives into noun form by adding ~는 것, ~기 or ㅁ/음. In this lesson, you will learn more about adding ~기 to words by learning about adding ~기도 하고 ~기도 하다 to words to emphasize verbs in sentences with the word "too."

.

~하기도 하고~하기도 하다

You learned in one of our very first lessons how to use the particle ~도 to give the meaning of "as well" or "too" to the noun it is attached to. For example:

저도 그 것을 먹고 싶어요 = I want to eat that, too, Or

저는 그 것도 먹고 싶어요 = I want to eat that too

Adding ~도 to a noun is something that is very easy, and I am sure you are comfortable doing it by now. However, it is also possible to add ~도 to verbs and adjectives as well. Of course, doing so involves changing these verbs into noun form first. This is usually done by using ~기 instead of ~는 것. Lets look at how we can do this:

The first thing you should do is add ~기도 to a verb or adjective:

그녀가 예쁘기도...

내가 밥을 먹기도...

Once you have added ~기도, you should finish the sentence with 하다:

그녀가 예쁘기도 해요 = She is beautiful too
