I stared up at the man from my position on the floor. He seemed to be observing me, but with his blank, almost sour, expression I couldn't tell what he was thinking. Jie set the bag down next to me, the door behind us still open.
Having packed whatever she'd deemed 'required' and wrapping me in the blanket she ran at full speed on horseback for about half an hour. She'd opened and barged in herself, so I can't imagine what this man is thinking right now. Though from her words earlier I can only assume this is the 'auntie' I haven't yet met in this life. Or rather 'uncle'.
Thus this situation. I didn't think that this man, in his young twenties, could be an 'aunt' of any sort. Though he was beautiful, his thin waist and broad shoulders seen through his thin clothes didn't leave much room for translation. But maybe this world's titles are different than Earth's?
"Qin's baby?" An excited young voice yelled from somewhere inside the house. A few moments later a girl pushed the man out of the way and found my eyes. She couldn't have been much older than Jie, though her figure seemed smaller. Not accounting for her chest and hips, though. Her long, done-up hair was, strangely enough, purple. Almost lavender. Young, but nearly as beautiful as the man now walking away. She paused when she saw me but her excitement quickly melted into a gentle expression. "Go, Go, I understand." She waved away my sister, who was waiting anxiously at the open door.
Jie dashed out. I doubt she even gave me a second glance. But than, I didn't give her one either.
"You must be Miss Qizi Mu Er Mei!" The girl smiled down at me and offered a hand.
I reached up, my blanket shifting as I moved, to try and touch her hand.
When her hand didn't stretch to meet mine I looked up at her only to find her staring at me, "You look just like your mother..." She shook her head, a wisp of sadness falling over her eyes. I didn't think so, though...
I'd thought, as Jie had dropped me off to stay here, that this was a 'safe place'. Maybe I'd assumed incorrectly. Maybe I wasn't going to stay here long. I huddled back into my blanket the best I could, bringing it down further over my face and closer around my body this time. It wasn't perfect because of my awkward body, but it would have to do.
The young girl sighed at my actions but introduced herself anyway. "I'm Canren, your mother's best friend. You can call me Ren ren, if you like. Come on, let's go get you settled in." So she is the 'aunt'. She grabbed my bag for me and began slowly leading me across the house.
With one hand holding the blanket around me it was harder to balance, but I refused any help she offered me along the way.
She led me to a room which I can only assume was a guest room for an adult. The bed was nearly as high as I was tall, and I could probably fit my entire body on a single one of the larger pillows piled on top. It was obvious that 'auntie's' house was much larger and more luxurious than ours. The rest of the room and the house that I'd seen backed me up in this.
She helped me unpack into lower drawers in the dresser before leaving. She talked the whole time, but I wasn't listening much. It seems I was wrong about not being here long. She's expecting me to be here for days, or even weeks. Just what had happened to my family?
