She looked past us for a second and yelled at someone leaving the shop, "Come back soon, Uncle!"
The well-built middle-aged man laughed, "I'd buy the whole shop just for you if I could, Nu 'Er!"
"You'd put my father out of business!"
"That's be no good, I wouldn't be able to see your smile anymore, huh?"
They both laughed as the door closed behind him. The girl, Nu, turned her attention back to us. "You guys come for the exam?"
I nodded.
"Yes."
She glanced over both of us, "We have some self-defence weapons for magicians over here." She pointed to the shelf behind her, "Though more expensive I can guarantee their quality!"
I laughed nervously. Of course it would look like that. Both of us had pretty light- colored hair so it's not weird she makes assumptions. Weapons for magicians are more expensive because most magicials don't have the strength or training for a normal weapon. Instead, they need easy-to-handle yet effective weapons. Usually, this comes in the form of a life-saving potion. Yet some blacksmith shops, if they have the ability, will sell some for magicians. The only thing is that they require a large amount of skill to make and many of the materials for these sorts of things are rare. Seems like when we were told this was one of the best in the capital they weren't lying.
"Actually, I'd like to borrow your facilities." Xin Ai pulled out my broken sword form the seath and put it on the counter.
"If it's a reparing you need than the prices are as shown here-" She pointed again to a sign. I'd been eyeing it for a while, but it seems like they would charge more than I could pay for my sword. It also wouldn't be done in time for school. Which is a problem. Students are required to bring their own weapons to register it during the first class.
Of course, I got this information from Canren who's gone to this school before.
"Actually, if you don't mind, I'd like to do it myself. It needs to be done by tomorrow, you see."
She hesitated... "Well, we can charge extra for something like that, but by tomorrow is..."
Xin Ai continued smiling as if he expected it, "I can do it. Would you mind? I'll be out within the hour."
"The hour! What? That's impossible! I mean..."
Xin Ai just continued smiling.
"Um... could you wait here for a second, please?" She hurried off, tripping over herself as she went. A few minutes later she returned with a towering man with biceps the size of my head. I shivered.
"If you are lying," He stared down at Xin Ai with a hard face, "you better accept the consequences."
Xin Ai's smile didn't falter as he nodded. "If i'm not out in an hour, I'll accept anything."
