The subordinate that had been helping with the contract laughed, "He's wondering if you guys are a pair, in the school." He laughed again, "Not if you've mated."
I sighed in relief. I thought he was implying something about our species.
Xin Ai smiled, "Yes, we are 'Mates' in the sense that we are a 'Pair'."
The boss folded his arms and nodded, satisfied. "A good match. A fighter and a magician."
I looked at Xin Ai. His expression didn't change. I wonder what all his abilities are. He said he was 'kind of' a magician, but what did that entail? He used magic in the fight, but he also used physical prowess. Usually, in this world, it's one or the other. Though I think his way is more correct. Xin Ai asks a question about the wording and I leave. He should be done writing it soon, I should have at least an idea of what I want.
Following my memory I made it back without any troubles. The girl was at the counter again. She'd disappeared sometime after my sword was done.
The shop was probably as big as the bakery and the fruits and vegetables section in a WalMart. It had thin walls lined up at a forty-five degree angle all up and down the large space. The weapons were all hung up on the walls.
"Sorry I jumped to conclusions about you earlier.." Her outgoing and bouncy attitude had morphed into a sheepish one.
"It's okay. I do have talent in magic, you weren't wrong to assume so. I just like swords better." I lifted the counter and slipped through.
"Are you leaving?"
"No."
She perked up and chased after me, "What are you looking for? I can help!"
I looked her up and down. I hadn't really noticed before, but she was shorter than I was. Everything about her seemed small. I puffed my cheeks. I wonder if he likes small, cute girls that are like little animals that he can protect and show off too?
"Zweihanders? Your largest swords." I asked her about what I thought they type I used is called.
"Over here." She went ahead of me in the same direction I'd been going.
I could kind of guess form how they seemed to be laid out. Though knowing more specifically is best.
"You guys are both really cool. Are you guys in the specialty class?"
"I'm not, Xin Ai took the test." I don't actually know if he passed. I'd assumed he had...
She glanced at me, shocked, "Oh. Here they are."
I stepped forward and began looking around. They had some good choices, everything here looked top-notch. I started looking for the right weight.
"What class are you in, than?"
Are people normally this nosy? At least she's not asking about Xin Ai.
I set one with a good weight to the side and started looking at designs, going over my style in my head and trying to figure out what else might be useful. She saw that I was focused and grew quiet, hopefully thinking I was concentrating and not ignoring her.
