"Xin Ai! I made it! I passed, we can be a pair!" I held out my slip in both hands, thrilled that I may have a chance to return to my dimension. Being in his same school, with conjoining classes gives me so many extra boosts! On top of it, I'm also his pair? Could it get any better?
I thought I would have to scavenge the world and search ruins before I even had a chance! Now it's as if the gods have handed over the 'thing I want most in this world' and delivered it straight to my palms! Could I ask for more?
Xin Ai smiled at me, almost as if he expected this result. As if he knew I was going to pass. I showed him my slip and his smile grew. "Good to know you aren't useless, than."
Be it any other day I probably would have hit him(or something), but not today because... I can go home! Instead, I smiled at him, the smile I knew was dazzling. He laughed and patted my head. I could tell he was just as glad as I was.
I cocked my head. Why would he be as happy as me? My reason was that I could go home. What's his underlying reason? Before I could ponder any further on it a girl walked up from the specialty classes' seats. Her hair was dark red with bright blue eyes and tanned skin. Her eyes seemed to shimmer even as I watched. She was big, nearly two heads taller than me, with body proportions that seemed a little too good. She was probably a couple years older than us. She was smiling but her upturned eyes made me think she's hiding something.
She walked straight up to my Xin Ai and patted him on the shoulder, "That wasn't too shabby, first year."
"Thank you." Xin Ai smiled back politely, "I didn't know enrolled students were allowed to stay at the school during enrollment."
"It's treated as a vacation week, but the school stays open. Some of us can't return to our homes, after all."
"Oh, I see. Those in the dorm might have traveled from further away, after all."
"You catch on quick. Here's your sword. You didn't use it." She obverced.
I watched the two. He'd already found another girl? If this continues there's going to be no way I'll end up being a special existence to him! He'll never use that treasure on me! If she's also in the specialty class than half of my god-given-gifts become useless!
He Xin Ai shrugged and put my sword back on his waist. "It's not mine, after all."
I needed to tell her off. I could feel the red on my face burning, "it's mine. I-I'm Xin Ai's... Ai's pair, Mei." I shy-girl glared at her, which was more like 'reproachfully observing'.
The woman laughed, "Don't worry, I won't take him from you. I just thought..." She glanced at Canren, "Being what we are, we would get along well with each other! I'm Chi Shili. I'm highly perceptive, my ability gaining new insights."
Canren stretched her hand forward, "Canren." She touched her hair, "My specialty is illusions. Mei's specialty is with her sword and in magic."
"Oh! Dual talented, huh? Are you going to take the specialty exam, too?"
I shook my head. Why was Canren telling her all this? I felt like there was something I wasn't catching onto. As if I'd missed a whole conversation.
"I'm Xin Ai. It's nice to meet you. Let's change locations, shall we?" He shook her hand.
So they didn't know each other? Wait, he's going along with it, too? What did I miss?!?!
