- Jaime's point of view -
I couldn't believe what Ricky had said. Ben was alive? He must be lying, I saw Ben choking on his own blood. The image haunted me in my sleep for months and still does sometimes. I put my head into my hands as I sat down in the grass. Ricky sat down next to me. "I don't know how to prove it to you Jaime. But I can tell you that I would never lie to you." I couldn't think straight. All this time and I could have walked up to Ben and hug his big belly. I could've talked to him about my struggles in rehab. I could've apologised for everything I put him and Mary through. "Tell me what happened" I said.
"Alright, where to start. After I heard you were rushed into hospital, George and I came to see you. You weren't awake yet and it wasn't sure if you would wake up at all. We met Mary and found out Jeremy and Dean were involved. She told us what happened to Ben and that you were there too." Ricky paused to see my reaction. I urged him on to continue. "Right before the first live show I came to visit you again, but you weren't there anymore. I decided to give Ben a visit. Mary told me the doctors said he would make it but that he had to rehabilitate for a very long time. After that I went back a few more times and got to know them a bit better. They're very fond of you Jaime" He explained. I slowly shook my head "They shouldn't be. I only caused them pain." "That's not what Ben would say" Ricky said smiling at me. "You don't know what Ben would've said to me" I told him getting a bit angry. "Ben's Bar biggest star could never let big Ben down now could she?" Before Ricky even finished the sentence I had broken down in tears. I felt Ricky's arm around my shoulder pulling me close to him as he tried to comfort me. As I pulled myself together I wiped my tears away with my sleeve. "I need a fucking beer" I muttered. "That can be arranged, let's go!" Ricky said enthusiastically. He pulled me up and wiped the grass of his trousers.
We walked towards the backstage bar and were joined by Lisa on the way. "So you've talked things through?" she asked. "Yeah, all is well" I said. When we arrived at the bar Ricky ordered three beer. "Jaime?" Lisa said stretching out the 'e'." What?" I asked innocently. "You should probably choose something else to drink" she said strictly. "Oh fuck you Lisa. I was addicted to coke not booze!" I took the beer from Ricky and took a few large sips. He watched me with amazement. "What?" I asked again. "Didn't know a woman could down a beer like that" he said. "You must have never been clubbing in Leeds then" I laughed. "To be honest, no I haven't." The three of us talked and laughed the rest of the evening before Lisa said she had to go home to see her children. Lisa and I said goodbye to Ricky and promised to stay in touch. I wanted to come to England as soon as possible to meet Ben again. I hoped Ricky was right and that he wasn't angry with me for everything I'd done. Ricky swore to accompany me. However he had a summer full of performances so it had to wait. He gave me Ben's phone number in case I wanted to talk to him beforehand. I didn't know it then, but the phone number would be the reason my life would take a turn once more.
