Even after peddling away from the scene, the emotion he was supposed to feel hours ago came creeping up to him in a heap. What am I supposed to do? He thought to himself, striding to the front door. The lights were all turned off, except for the one in his room. The only evidence that's left is the girl herself, but she wouldn't tell, he thought silently as he opened his front door blindly. It was unlocked. He stepped in his house, trying not to make a sound. He knew if he did, his dog would surely get set off and wake up his mom. Tender step after tender step, closing the front door from behind him; the night was silent and still, which was good since he needed it so he wouldn't get spotted. His room was just ahead of him, and he paced towards it with determination running through his fingertips. When he creeped through the doorway of his room, shock was a first component; there, sitting on his bed while stroking the fur of their beloved pooch, was his mom, piercing eyes glaring at him with such a persistence that even he knew that he was in trouble. The dog raised his head in surprise, then as soon as he did, lowered his head slowly. It was as if he knew that Tom was in trouble, knowing that he was doomed. "So," she said calmly, "You came home?"
