Don't Date The Guitarist (2) - Holly's POV
"Surprise!"
Searching around the delighted faces before me, I noticed that just about everyone I knew was stood in a huddled group, crammed into my back garden.
"You remembered!" I squealed with delight, running up to my dad who was at the front of everyone, holding a cake in his hands.
"Of course I remembered, how can I forget your birthday, you numpty!" He laughed, kissing me gently on the forehead.
I couldn't contain the huge smile spread across my face. This hadn't happened since before when mum was still around.
"You guys didn't have to do this for me!" I said guiltily, looking up at the pretty '19 today' banners strung up around the garden, and at everyone's party hats.
"Yeah, we only did this so you'd buy us all drinks tonight!" Michael joked, ruffling my hair.
I smiled at him, messing up his turquoise couloured hair in turn.
The feeling was indescribable. Even my teacher from year 5 was there. My dad must have worked his arse off to invite everyone!
"Thank you so much!" I said to everyone as gifts were passed to me.
"C'mon, let's go for a walk or something." Mike said in my ear as music began blaring out and everyone's attention was diverted from me and onto each other.
"Treehouse?"
"I'll race you."
Mikey shot a cheeky grin at me before sprinting off towards the tree in my garden, climbing up the ladder and into the small wooden house at the top that my dad had built.
"Okay, you win!" I shouted up into the treehouse, climbing the ladder. "Mike, are you-"
Halfway up the ladder, I felt two hands around my waist, helping me up into the house effortlessly. We collided gently as I was brought to my feet, and as I stared up into his eyes, he stared right back down at mine... But then, I was brought back to reality, pulling myself away quickly and pretending like nothing had happned.
We sat cross-legged opposite eachother, and as I diverted my eyesight from his as best as I could, I began picking at the loose thread on the knee of his jeans.
"It's weird, Holly. It's like I'm in a dream sometimes... I have fans, you know? People know my name." He said softly, and i felt his smile upon me. I looked up at him, and he reached over, tucking the strand of hair escapaping my loose-tied bun behind my ear.
"Well, while you're out partying and having a great time, your best friend is stuck here in England." I sighed, suddenly scooting closer to him and wrapping my arms around him like a child.
"Hey, you know even though I can't always be here, I'll always be your best friend." He said sternly, but returned the hug, pushing his head into the curve between my neck and shoulder, sighing.
"I know." I whispered, and layed down on the wooden floor of the treehouse, pulling away from the hug as I felt tears welling up in my eyes, and felt I couldn't embarrass myself like that. Even though Mikey had always been there for me when I needed to cry in the past, I felt now he was some famous hot shot, he wouldn't want some girl blubbering on his shoulder.
Despite what I thought, he layed down with me on the cold floor, and gestured for me to come closer to him, opening his arms. Sliding one hand over his chest, I rested my head on Michael's, smiling as we had our arms wrapped around eachother. Feeling the pounding beat of his heart from underneath my ear, I smiled weakly to myself. I had to stay happy, it was my birthday...
But it was easier said than done.
