Chapter 3

The summer had begun and the girls had finally moved the rest of their stuff out of their old dorm room and into the removal van outside. They both stood in the middle the door way looking at the empty room that was once filled with memories and possessions. All that was left now was the bare minimum that the school provided. "well this is it, can you believe we have spent near enough our whole life here and we are now leaving" Mia said as she put her arm over her best friend's shoulder, Lucy looked at her and gave a sad smile "I know, I mean I'm use to leaving Chilton for summer but we always leave stuff here as we've had the same dorm since we were 6 years old" Lucy said as she looked at the room again. A wave of sadness hit her and she realised this was going to be it, she could feel tears welling up. From now on she would be going to school and returning home to a house on a night rather than attending classes and then returning to her room on a night.

Chilton was a boarding school for girls aged 3-18. From the ages of 3-6 the girls are divided between 3 rooms where they sleep with 24 other girls their age. At the age of 6 the girls are then placed in dorm rooms and remain in that room until they leave at the age of 18, because of this when the school breaks for summer the girls are allowed to leave things in their room ready for their return the following September.

By the time the girls had enough will power to turn round and make it down the corridor which has been their home for the past 10 years they were greeted by a group of girls wearing a variety of clothes, some were in shorts and vest tops, others in dresses, some in skirts and a few even jeans. The group of girls smiled at Lucy and Mia before engulfing them in a group hug.

"We will miss you" someone shouted

"Yeah, make sure you visit"

"Don't forgot us"

"Make sure you ring and skype us" where only some of the shouts which Lucy could make out. By the time the group had dispersed, Lucy and Mia were stood holding a photo frame with a picture of all the girls who were in their year group as a photo frame continuing a phone they had taken with the dancer society at their last showcase. For Lucy to say she didn't feel sad about leaving would have been a lie because she did, this school was the only education she had known for 13 years. Usually the girls would get a flight from South Carolina to the airport that was an hour from Riverbank but because they were taking everything home with them they were driving. It was going to be a long drive. Taking one last look at the place which had been their home away from home, Lucy and Mia climbed into the removal van which Lucy's dad had hired "you ready girls" he asked as he turned the engine on. They girls looked at him and smiled "ready as we'll ever be dad" Lucy said taking one final glance at the building in front of her 'bye Chilton' she thought to herself

8 hours and 14 pit stops later Lucy was close to killing her best friend "no wonder we always flew home, you have a bladder the size of a pea" she said to Mia "sorry Luce but I can't help it, Dad I really need to pee again" Mia said looking apologetically. Mr Jones looked at his daughter's best friend and sighed "we're 10 minutes away from Riverbank Mia, can you last that long" her father asked pointing to the road sign which said they were two miles from Riverbank. Mia looked at him and nodded, however she wasn't sure if she could hold it.

The van pulled into the driveway of the Jones' residence and Lucy smiled, she was home. Mia hopped out of the van and ran inside "hi mum, Hi aunt Jenna" she shouted to Mrs Jones and her aunt as she made her way to the downstairs toilet. Lucy looked at her mum and smiled "hi mum" she said cuddling her mum, her mum pulled away and smiled at her before pulling her into a tighter hug "ohh I only saw you two weeks ago" she said pulling away again, Lucy looked to her best friend's aunty "hi Jenna" she said walking over and hugging her "hey Lucy" Lucy pulled away to see her friend walking back towards the front door "ahh that is better" Mia said as she stood near her aunt "hi aunt Jenna" Mia said hugging her aunty "hi mum" she said looking at Lucy's mum, Lucy looked to Jenna and could see a slight look in her eyes which was not shown on her face, since the loss of Mia's parents her aunt Jenna was never really comfortable with Mia calling Mr and Mrs Jones 'mum' and 'dad'.
