Chapter 16
Lucy lay fast asleep in her bed, surrounded by Sam's arms, they had been sat talking and Lucy had pretty much unloaded everything that was weighing her down and the second it was all off her chest she dosed off. Sam sat quietly looking at the sleeping Lucy in his arms, to him she look so small and helpless. He hated himself for the bet which he had given Tyler, at first it was some stupid teenage boy’s idea of a funny joke but now that he had seen what it had done to Lucy, he hated himself for it. It had completely ruined Lucy's life. If it hadn’t been for him she wouldn't be this broken shell of her old self, she wouldn't be staying at her friend’s house because of what her parents said and she certainly wouldn’t be expecting a baby.
Sam was pulled from his thoughts by Lucy stirring "how long was I asleep" she asked sounding groggy. Sam looked at her and smiled "not long, an hour at the most". Lucy sat up and rubbed her eyes "I'm sorry I didn't mean to fall asleep" Lucy gave a small smile as much as she loved her friends, she only felt happy around Sam. It could be to do with the fact that Sam didn't constantly ask how she was holding up or if she was ok. If she seemed upset to Sam, he would do something to take her mind of it or make her laugh. Sam looked at her and smiled back “its fine don’t worry about it, you must have needed it if you fell asleep that easy”.
"So" Sam said pulling Lucy from her though "I was wondering if you wanted to maybe get lunch with me tomorrow. I know you have dance on the morning but I was thinking maybe afterwards we could got to a little cafe for lunch. It doesn't have to be a date or anything just two normal friends having a normal lunch" Sam babbled, Lucy gave a small smile, she found it cute when Sam babbled, "Yeah, I’d like that" Lucy agreed, it would be nice to get out of the house even if it was just for a little while. Lucy stood up off of her bed and made her way over to her mirror, grabbing her brush she quickly ran it through her hair “would you like something to eat?” she asked Sam. She wasn’t particularly hungry herself but she thought Sam might have been. Sam looked at her “only if you are” Sam said smiling. Lucy looked at him, she knew if she told him that she wasn’t hungry he would try and persuade her to eat something, so she smiled “follow me”.
Once in the kitchen, Lucy pulled out all the things she needed to make two sandwiches. Once she made the sandwiches she handed a plate to Sam and picked the other plate up. Lucy made her way to the back room where she picked up the TV remote and turned the TV on. Sitting in the front room Sam looked at Lucy and was pulled back into his thoughts, it was his entire fault. He knew Lucy was sat looking at her sandwich because she wasn’t hungry and that the whole reason she had made it was so that Sam would eat.
Eventually Lucy picked up her sandwich and took a small bite out of it. It took her awhile but she eventually ate it and then curled up on the settee. Sam looked over at her to see that she had fallen asleep again. He grabbed his plate and then picked Lucy’s up off the floor before taking them into the kitchen. As he was washing the plates he heard movement behind him “how is she” he heard Adrian ask, Sam sighed and he turned “she’s putting on a front for everyone else but she is a scared little girl who doesn’t know what is happening in her life” Sam said truthfully, Adrian lent against the door frame “I’ve known her since she was 3 years old, I have never seen her so depressed and broken” Adrian stopped “I mean she has always had this ball of fire in her that has pushed her through in everything she has done, be it ballet, tap, Irish she has always been so determined and now she is crying herself to sleep every night and that fire she once had in her has gone out” Adrian said sighing. Sam looked at Adrian and nodded.
After his talk with Adrian, Sam made his way back to the front room and stood in the doorway. Lucy was curled up fast asleep on the settee; he walked over and placed his arm under her legs and around her back before picking her up with ease. At the feeling of being moved, Lucy began to stir “shhh” Sam lulled her before she settled back to sleep. Sam carried Lucy to her room and placed her in her bed. Pulling the covers over her, he ensured that she was tucked in and was comfy before kissing her forehead and making his way to her room door. He turned to look at Lucy one last time before closing the door.
