Chapter 12

Lucy knew she needed to tell her parents. It’s not like she could hide the truth forever, eventually she is going to start developing a bump and that bump was going to continue to grow. Sitting on her bed, Lucy knew her parents had left early this morning; her dad had another business meeting a few towns over and her mum was trying to deal with some problems which had appeared with next month’s issue of her magazine. There was a thud and some shovelling coming from her brother’s room as he was getting ready to leave soon for his Saturday morning soccer practice. Getting off her bed, Lucy ran her fingers through her bed hair and looked in her mirror; the person who looked back at her wasn’t her. She had visible dark circles under her eyes. She had lost some colour in her face and was looking pale. Her hair looked lifeless and was pointing in all directions. Taking a deep breath Lucy turned away from her mirror and walked into her bathroom. Turning her shower on Lucy began to strip her pyjamas off before stepping into her shower.

After her shower Lucy felt a little better, she felt as though the warm water had washed away some of her worries leaving her to feel somewhat happy. Wrapping a towel around her body, Lucy picked up a smaller towel and began rubbing it into her hair. After towel drying her hair, Lucy walked into her bedroom and over to her draws where she proceeded to pull out her underwear and a pair of tights; before walking over to her wardrobe and pulling out a simple pink skirt, a vest top and a cardigan. Once dressed Lucy sat at her small vanity table and placed the hair dryer on her hair. Although Lucy’s hair was naturally wave-y she preferred it to be straight as she felt it was a lot more manageable. After straightening her hair, Lucy applied minimal make up. Looking in her mirror she looked a lot more like herself; the dark circle under her eyes were less noticeable, she now had a little colour in her checks and her hair was now tamed and under control.

Wondering around her room, Lucy picked up her bag, placing it on her bed before collecting her phone off her nightstand, gently throwing it in her bag. Picking up her keys she threw them into her bag as well. Once she had everything that she needed, Lucy picked up her bag and made her way downstairs. The house was quiet; her brother must have left whilst she was in the shower. Walking over to the front door, Lucy pulled on her shoes and picking up her coat and grabbed the car keys from the small table by the front door. Recently Adrian had been collecting Lucas when they had training on a weekend so that Lucy could use the car. Setting the alarm, Lucy walked out of the house and over to the car. Unlocking the door, Lucy climbed into the drivers seat; throwing her bag and coat onto the passenger’s seat; Lucy started the engine and proceeded to make her way down her driveway and out onto the main road.

Lucy wasn’t exactly sure where she was driving but she just drove. Eventually she pulled up to a small park about half an hour away from her home. Grabbing her bag, Lucy got out of the car and locked it. The park was empty so she made her way over to the swings, the memories of her childhood flashed through her mind as she got closer and closer to the swings. She used to come here during the summer with her father and her brother when she was younger. Back then her father didn’t have to work as much so he was home most weekends; he would always bring them here every Saturday during the summer but then when they turned 10 he began working a lot more and they would only make it to the park maybe once or twice and then eventually one summer they didn’t go at all.

Placing her bag on the floor, Lucy sat on the swings and began to rock back and forwards on her feet before she was effetely swinging. She wasn’t sure how long she spent swinging back and forth on the swing but she was pulled from her thoughts by her phone ringing. Jumping of the swing mid-swing Lucy landed on her feet and walked back over to her bag; pulling her phone out of the bag she saw Mia’s name flashing on the screen along with a photo of her best friend. Answering the call Lucy held the phone to her ear.
