“Oh my God, I am so so sorry.” I immediately say, taking my handkerchief out of my pocket.
I wipe his wet shirt with the handkerchief until I realize that his shirt’s already sticking to his chest. I stop what I was doing and try to avoid his gaze, biting my lip in embarrassment as my cheeks turns into a light shade of pink.
“Um, I – I am so sorry, I wasn’t being careful.” I stammer.
He laughs, I look up at him – he’s a little bit taller than I am, blonde hair, light blue eyes, and I gotta say, he has a great smile.
“It’s okay, don’t worry about it.” he assures me.
“What can I do to, um, make it up to you, I could buy you a new shirt or –”
“It’s okay, that won’t be necessary.” he cuts me off in a polite way and flashes me a smile.
He turns to the lady and buys two bottles of water, before he turns around to face me. Good thing that it’s just the two of us, I could’ve started a kerfuffle because of my clumsiness. I just realize something, he looks familiar to me but I don’t know where I saw him before. I snap out of my thoughts, when he hands me the other water bottle.
“What’s that?” I look at him quizzically.
“A water,” he says with a laugh. “I am just kidding, it would be rude if I wouldn’t replace your drink.”
“Thank you, but I am okay. In fact, I should be the one to make it up to you.” I reply.
“It’s okay and please, take it.” he looks straight into my eyes, offering the water bottle one more time. “Drink that, your face was so red especially when you spilled your water on my shirt earlier.” he chuckles.
I bite my lip, “I am really really sorry.” I say after a while and he shakes his head.
“Just forget about it and don’t worry about that, okay?” he gives me a reassuring smile.
“Okay.” I reply with a small smile.
He hands the water bottle to me again, “Please.” he says, I breathe out and smile as I take it from him.
“Uh, here.” I open my wallet and pull out a bill to pay for the water but he shakes his head again.
“I am giving it to you, I am not asking you to pay for it.” he says.
“Please, take it.” I look up at him hopefully.
“No, I insist.” he shakes his head. “It’s okay, you don’t have to pay for it.”
I bite my lip, I feel like I am annoying him already. “I – I am sorry, thank you.” I stutter, putting the money back into my wallet.
“You are welcome.” he replies and drinks from his water, keeping his gaze on me.
Just as I am about to excuse myself and go back to where my Mom is, my phone starts to vibrate; it’s Andy.
“Excuse me.” I say to the boy in front of me and answer the call.
“Where are you?” Andy asks in a rather demanding tone, making me smile and roll my eyes at the same time.
“I just went to look for a water.” I reply, looking down at the grass as I wait for him to speak.
“Rye said that he saw you with someone,” he says. “stay there and I’ll be there in a minute.” he sternly adds, someone’s being protective again.
