I wake up to Rae’s barks from the hallway, then I remember that Mom’s finally going to be home today. I thought that it might be her already so even though I was still sleepy, I quickly get up from the bed and hurry downstairs. Just as I get into the Living room, I already see Mom taking her coat off and putting it on the coat rack.

“Hi, mom.” I beam, as I walk towards her and wrap my arms around her.

“Hey, happy birthday.” she says, squeezing me tighter. “I missed you so much.” she whispers whilst we are still in a hug.

“Me too, mom, I am happy that you’re finally back.” I say, as I pull away.

Just before Mom could say anything, Rae barks from upstairs which catch our attention.

“Is that a puppy?” she furrows her eyebrows, looking up at the direction where we heard the barks.

“Yeah,” I sheepishly chuckle, as the two of us walk towards the sofa. “it’s Ryan’s gift for my birthday.”

All of a sudden, the smile on my face fades upon saying his name.

“What’s the matter?” she asks, looking at worriedly.

“Nothing.” I reply reassuringly, as I give her a small smile and sit on the sofa.

“Well, that’s really cute.” she changes the subject, sitting down next to me. “I didn’t know that he gave you a puppy though.” she says.

“I am sorry if I didn’t tell you, I didn’t get the chance to cause you were on the run.” I look down at my hands.

She breathes out and puts her hand on my lap, “I am sorry, sweetheart.” she says and I put my hand on top of hers and didn’t say anything else. “Well,” she says after a while. “wanna go to Somerset today?”

“I’d love to.” I reply, looking up at her with a smile.

“Let’s just stop by McDonald’s on the way there.” she gets up from the sofa whilst I look at her questioningly.

“Wait, are we going to leave like right now?” I ask.

She nods, “So, we can stay there a little longer.”

“Oh,” I smile and get up from the sofa. “alright, sounds good to me.”

“Go and get ready then.” she says.

I nod and walk upstairs, I just prepare the clothes that I am going to wear before I step into the shower.

Maybe going to Somerset will help me get my mind off him or is it the other way around since it’s his hometown?

After taking a bath, I put on the clothes that I had already put out and just grab any sweater hanging in the closet. Afterwards, I put a little make up and put my wallet and lipgloss into my small black satchel backpack and grab my phone on the bed before walking downstairs. Half way down the stairs, I see Brook in the Living room. I wonder what he’s doing here, then I hear Andy’s voice.

“Oh, hi sweetheart.” Mom smiles, when she sees me walking into the room.

I just smile at her and the boys; when it comes to Rye, I just smile a little and immediately look away. I purse my lips and sit next to my Mom, as the boys continue their conversation before I arrive.
